I saw CAG had posted last week that you can get the 20% off deals for DD over at buy.com, plus use the $10 off for Google checkout. I've been doing this - anyone else?

Buy.com will match the DD discounted price or Buy.com will match giving 20% off their stated price?
I ask because at Buy.com you can get the first 3 seasons of BSG (1, 2.0, 2.5, and 3) for $110 as their current price. At DD you need to apply the 20% just to match Buy.com's current price. So Buy.com already has as a good a price as DD will give but if they are matching 20% off that would bring it down to $89 at Buy.com.
So far the 20% discount is not doing much for me. There are a few westerns in the $9 - $12 range that I'll probably get discounted to $7.20 - $9.60. Also, some Criterions probably worth getting, but other then that it is taking the 20% off just to match some other adverstised pricing for what I am looking for.
For example,
- Three seasons of BSG at Buy.com for $110, DD after 20% discount $110.
- Two seasons of Rome at Amazon for $80, DD after 20% discount $80.
A few months back I got the Fritz Lang collection at DD for $50, at it's current pricing you can't get that price with the 20% discount. I picked up 15 DVDs during the Fox/MGM? sale "buy 2 get 1 free" a month or so back getting approx. 30% off. I got Horatio Hornblower series during the A&E sale for like $26. For me at least, it seems some of their less advertised sales in the past months were better deals then the highly rated 20% off deal. Anyone else finding this to be true?

I see. That makes sense then why the overall prices between DD and Buy.com were exactly the same with respect to BSG. Interestingly, when I commented on that to DD they did not provide information on that relationship.
Too bad DD's price on Rome isn't any better. I would have hoped that since DD pushes to be the lowest price that during one of their 20% sales it would be a "no brainer" to go with them and not to find Amazon having as good a price on something with no special sale in place.

Next question:
Getting Rome seasons 1 and 2 for $39.99 each seems like a pretty good deal.
But for BSG (is this a good deal after 20% off):
- season 1, $33
- season 2.0 and 2.5, $23 each
- season 3, $31
Or is it better to wait for the season 4 release and see if all go on sale? Did this happen when season 3 was initially released (i.e., previous seasons were on sale)?

Anyone know why some products don't show up from DD on buy.com? (it's not a preorder or OOS)

Hey would any of you guys recommend the WWII Battlefront Europe set for under $25?
I need some more war films and this looks like a good one to get for the price. I think there is a 2-disc version of The Dirty Dozen but that wouldn't really bug me. Should I go for this or grab something else? Thanks.

With the use of the coupon codes found below, you can bring the price down further.

There's a 25% off code for new accounts; some 15% non-member coupon codes become active later in the week. (Of course, there is no guarantee how long the price on Rome will stay at current costs.)

When you go back 4 or 5 years, when the DD sales were in their heyday, the average DVD price was higher, and other studio-centric deals thru the year were much less frequent.
That's partly why this thread isn't on Part III almost two weeks in.
That said, there are still great deals to be had, especially for someone who doesn't have the time to bargain-watch as a hobby.
I figured out the average cost per title that I'm paying in this sale and it's under $9 per. That includes 3 Hd titles, a couple Criterions, and several box sets. Four years ago, even $9 for a general big studio single disc title would have been a great deal.
But yes, it pays to keep an eye open all year and take advantage of a good deal when you see it and not wait and expect everything to always be cheaper during the 20% off sale.

Goddammit!!! An item went up by $10 just as I was going to the checkout! I placed the Oskar Multimedia 1080CD/504DVD Storage Cabinet in my basket for ~$116 and just as I get to the checkout it's close to $126! WTF?!?
Has that ever happened to anyone else before?

During the last two 20% sales I've received my orders within 2-4 business days after shipping confirmation. My first order from this sale shipped 6/5 and it arrived two days ago... I live in NC. A similar delay happened when I ordered the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull CD... and I had preordered it!
