Re: Wolverine - Solo

Liev doesn't play a bad Sabertooth but he has probably ten lines in the whole film. I was surprised how little he spoke. The story just doesn't have a good flow. They tried to shove a ton of mutants into the film and almost none of them have any reason to be there. Gambit is one such character. Also the action is mediocre. Way too much wire-fu. Overall its just a supremely underwhelming movie. I don't know how they could screw up a Wolverine solo movie this much.

Is the story, flow, action, acting not good as well?

I don't think X3 was that bad. The Juggernaught redeemed that film for me. The main thing I didn't like about X3 was that they underused Collossus...
juggernaut was the second worst thing about X3 besides Fox taking a huge dump on the phoenix mythology. marko is no mutant, he needs no air to breath so the scene where he needed a lift to the island was embarrassing. after wolverine debuts and bombs, I hope marvel brings a lawsuit against Fox for destroying the x-men franchise. or pay Fox a king's ransom to get the properties back. I was looking forward to deadpool so much. Fox needs new people in charge.

I didn't even know who Deadpool was until I started hearing about this movie.

I'd add most of the X-Men to the list above. The only ones who worked were Wolverine, Nightcrawler and maybe Cyclops to a certain extent. Iceman and Colossus were wasted potential, and there were fundamental problems with Storm, Phoenix, and especially Rogue.

Re: Wolverine - Solo

Wolverine will have a HUGE opening, no question, but it'll sink like a goddamn stone once the very real word-of-mouth alerts everyone to the fact that it sucks.

Still, I'll see it because I think I owe the film one more shot as a final product, but I already know full well what I'm in for.

Re: Wolverine - Solo

Oh, no QUESTION Wolverine will take in about $200 million domestic, maybe the same or more internationally, and it will be a hit for FOX.

Just imagine how much more it would make if it was a GOOD movie... Wolverine is arguably a zillion times more popular than IRON MAN, but it will trail that movie's grosses bigtime.

Re: Wolverine - Solo

I've watched it twice now.

Liev Schreiber owns this movie, he really pulls of the 'menacing' thing.

It's not as bad as I'm seeing people say here, but on the other hand it would have been so easy to make it better.

I expect it'll be a hit with good word of mouth from the masses.

Re: Wolverine - Solo

So, maybe they shouldn't have hired the director of "Rendition".

Was Rendition a crappy movie? Never saw it but I've noticed a negative vibe toward it ever since the director of that film was announced as the director of this film.

Having decent drama directors working on action flicks is not a good idea, Quantum of Solace anyone? Maybe Wes Anderson should direct the next Terminator installment!!

Fucking idiots...I just can't bring myself to watch it. I respect Jackman's love for the character too much...that and he seems like a great guy..

Re: Wolverine - Solo

I'm still going to see this on May 1, but am pretty disheartened to hear that the leaked version is infact IDENTICAL to the theatrical version (in terms of scenes, editing etc.)... I wasn't ever going to watch the leak but saw it at a friends house and thought it was fun but there wasn't enough character development and what they did to Deadpool was nearly unforgiveable... but I had hope that the additional 10 minutes might salvage some of that and really strengthen the film to make it something more than just passable...but now hearing that the reports of "more footage, print was not locked" was bullshit, I'm pretty fucking pissed at how this ended up. Not nearly as bad as some reviews I've read because I had fun and am going to see it at least twice in the theatre, but seriously mishandled a few characters...and with a few tweaks and additional scenes it could have been so much better.

Re: Wolverine - Solo

Well Maybe we will get an eventual Directors cut on DVD that has scenes that last for more than 20 seconds and have actual depth to them. It made Daredevil a bit better and maybe it'll make Wolverine better as well.
I knew this movie couldnt work at under two hours and it looks like I was right.
Still I do think it'll do well here in the US the first few weeks at least. Fox made some very strong trailers for the film and have been marketing the hell out of it the past 5 months.

When did it come out that the leaked print is going to be the same runtime as the theatrical version? I guess I missed something.

Yeah, that's news to me too. Disappointing if true given all the negatives I've read about the workprint.

Found the report:

I was going to just wait and see the finished movie in the theater.
However, I'm off to find the workprint now...

Re: Wolverine - Solo

Well I have watched the working print-(twice)-myself It's not a bad movie.

But there are a few WTF moments in the movie I not going into details.

But I am still going to see this flim when it comes out (after all it may me cry and that's rare for me).

I'm glad im not a fan of Deadpool, cuz then I would be upset over this film. Although, I am still upset at filmmakers changing characters around like that.
