I don't say "Palpatine makes a goofy face so George Lucas can die and go to hell and get raped by demons." I'm reasonable like that. Kinda like how I don't think its the most unreasonable thing in the world to suffer through all the goofy shit in Jabba's palace and the pussification of Han Solo and an unimaginative rehash of the Death Star sequence and the franchise lowpoint that is the Ewoks to see the cool stuff in Jabba's palace and the speeder bike chase and the Luke/Vader/Emperor stuff.
There's a lot of cool shit in the prequels. More cool shit than shitty shit.

I'd hold them to a much higher standard if the OT was three great movies as opposed to one great movie surrounded by a good movie and a bad movie.
I don't hold them all up to Empire. I hold them up to Jedi, and under those circumstances only TPM manages to be worse, and only slightly so.
But I get it: if I obsessed over the OT like they were the greatest achievement in the history of fiction for my entire life before seeing the PT I would probably hate them too.

I actually thought the hatred for the PT would've slightly diminished by the time Phantom Menace-3D appeared in theaters, but holy shit, the hatred for those films seems to get worse and worse by the second. You've got plenty of people who won't even bother to see these new films just because the PT fucked them so badly.
Can you think of ANY movies that have become so hated by the public as the PT has?

Revenge of the Sith is an okay film by the prequel trilogy's standards but that's only because the other two are so shitty that anything marginally better creams them by comparison. I'll agree that there are some aspects of it that are cool to see play out but overall I'd still never choose it over Return of the Jedi.

-The turn scene: (which is the reason Lucas made the Prequels) is so bad and so unbelievable, as he turns in 5 seconds? So he essentially tells Mace about Palpatine, and then a few minutes later, he turns to the dark side and kills all of the Jedi as his first mission? All because Palpatine may be able to save his wife who hasn't died yet?
-Padme losing the will to live: First of all it contradicts what Leia said to Luke on Endor, but that is a WHOLE other conversation. Second, you're telling me this strong willed women for 3 movies loses the will to live seconds after she has twins??? "Sorry Obiwan, I'm checking out, so find a home for my 2 babies!"
-The Duel on Mustafar: Boring! Its all glitz and no substance, as they should have talking smack to each other the WHOLE fight. Anakin was so unlikeable at that point, I was glad when Kenobi cut him down! This duel should have been tragic to watch, sort of like if Luke fought Han and the audience was torn because they were such good friends.
-The Checklist Points in the last hour: The last hour WAS The Prequel Trilogy we all wanted to see: Darth Vader hunting down the Jedi, The Empire takes power, Padme having twins and Yoda/Kenobi figuring out where to take them into hiding, Darth Vader being built, etc. Instead we get what I call the "Prequels Greatest Hits' as none of these scenes are really developed simply because Lucas ran out of time.
Episode I & II storyline should have been Episode I as that was just an introduction, and Episode III storyline should have been Episode II & III to flesh it out more

The Episode I storyline should have been skipped altogether. There was absolutely no reason to see a 10 year old Anakin. The prequels should have started with a ~20 year old Anakin like Episode IV started with a 20 year old Luke. Jar Jar is often cited as the worst thing about Episode I, but Baby Vader is much worse.

Episode 1 should have started with either Anakin as Obi-Wan's apprentice or both of them serving under Qui-Whatsisface. The rest of what was wrong with the picture was fixed in The Phantom Edit.
I saw RotS during a five-week business stay in Bangalore - where I was on my own and so starved for entertainment that one Sunday night I watched a Sandra Bullock double-feature and loved it - and it still wasn't good.
("I have the high ground!" Yeah, like that matters to motherfuckers who've been flying for the whole fricking movie.)

I'm surprised I'm the first to post this.
Apparently we have a title.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens has completed principal photography. #StarWarsVII #TheForceAwakens"
From the official Star Wars Twitter account.

It's already better than The Phantom Menace. What a shit title that was.

I assume "Episode VII" will still appear in the crawl
I have no problem with the title.

Yah, I've always kind of liked George's goofy serial-esque titles. This one's pretty boring.

Don't forget that he totally glossed over the formation of the Rebel Alliance --paring it down to a single scene before cutting it out of the movie all together. I guess seeing the seeds being sown for the movement that would play such a vital role in the following trilogy is hardly important, right? Not to mention he chose to completely ignore things established in the OT, like Leia's memories of Padme and Luke's vague familiarity with Dagobah. We also heard Palpatine refer to a lightsaber as a "Jedi weapon" in RotJ, speaking like someone who seemingly had no use for the thing. Yet in Episode III we discover he was an expert swordsman and the lightsaber is the weapon of choice for his entire evil order? And hell, we even see the near-completed Death Star nineteen years before the thing is operational.
Personally, TPM is the one prequel I have the least problems with as a standalone film -- but as taffer mentioned, it added little to the overall trilogy and probably should have been skipped all together (and that's coming from someone who saw it in theaters 16 times that year... ).

The Emperor learned his lesson for Death Star II, as he brought in low-skilled labor from other planets and was near completion in a much shorter time!

I didn't have the same visceral reaction that I had to "Attack of the Clones" so that's good. That's really the only prequel title that ever bothered me.

"The Force Awakens"... meh. Sounds so fan-fictiony and lacks the zip-pow pizazz of Lucas's serial-infused titles.
Would "Awakening of the Force" sound better? Probably not. They should have gone with "Ghosts of the Reichstag", except that makes no sense.

I'm kinda glad they didn't go with "A New Dawn" or some such iteration. I also like that it's not "____ of the ___" as well.

TFA...have to get used to that...sounds too much like T&A. So the Force has been asleep or something? Ep. 8 will be called "Rise of the Midi-chlorians".
