The in depth discussion on the logistics of the new lightsaber made me think I was reading a thread on the force.net forums. I almost forgot I was on DVDTalk.

It's even more nerdy now that DVD is an obsolete format. All the cool kids in town have left and moved on to newer formats. Only the nerds have remained behind still talking about DVDs in 2014. (But hey at least we aren't as nerdy as the clowns over on VHSTalk.)

"Nerds are smart."
Something that always puzzled me is Booger in the Revenge of the Nerds movie. Booger isn't remotely close to being a nerd. He's just a fat slob. So why is he with the nerds? I guess they're all outcasts, but it seems like Booger would have migrated more towards the other fat slobs than to the nerds.

Eh, DVDTalk has always been pretty nerdy. Talking about DVDs on an internet message board is inherently nerdy. Having a collection of thousands of DVDs (like many people here have) is just as nerdy as a collection of thousands of comic books.

No doubt we all talk about geeky stuff, but this analyzing of the Episode 7 trailer has even turned me off. The fact the new lightsaber and rolling droid has gotten this many pages of arguments tells me we have lost our way and no wonder why no one enjoys the franchise anymore. Atleast wait til you see the movies to start bitching!
Also, are you new or something? People here always bitch about movies before seeing them. Remember all the bitching about Quicksilver looking stupid in DOFP? Then he actually turned out to be one of the best parts of the movie.
Personally, I don't bitch about crap like that. I don't care way one or another about the rolling droid. The broadsword-lightsaber looks stupid, but I'm waiting to actually see it within context of the actual movie rather than a minute long teaser trailer to pass final judgement on it. It could very well be another Quicksilver thing where it actually turns out to be quite good.

I don't think that stopped people from saying he looked bad, he did. But he was awesome for what little he was used and then kicked out of the story.

I've been sans internet until today so I just watched the teaser. Color me unimpressed.

I liked it. It looks gritty and I love the shot of the X-wings over the water. I think people need to temper their expectations and realize that not every lightsaber hilt or soccer ball style robot matters a fuck in the grand scheme of things. This movie may not be 5/5 stars, but me thinks it's going to be head and shoulders better than the PT and probably better than RotJ without trying too hard.

I don't think it looks gritty at all. It looks kind of cheap. despite what I assume was a massive budget. And the lightsaber and ball-droid where the least lame aspect of the whole teaser (though neither was any good).

The PT looks like shit through and through (especially II and III) but there's something "off" about the look of this one. It has a rushed look to it. I hate to say it but it's reminding me of the visual aesthetic of Marvel's The Avengers. I expected better from Abrams.
But since it's a teaser (and a shitty one at that), I'll reserve judgment until I see a final trailer. After all, it could be that the only completed shots they had in time to cut the teaser just happened to be underwhelming.

What is up with all this revisionist history bullshit lately about The Avengers not being a good movie?

So now we're complaining about what WASN'T shown in the teaser?
Now I know y'all are just hating for the sake of hate.

I'm not sure if he is hinting at the quality of the film but he's talking about the visual aesthetic of the film. A gripe that has been around since release and, it seems, ever growing. I like the Avengers fine and dandy, I enjoy it like crazy as a fan of the comics, but there was room for improvement as a film.

I have watched it three times since it released in 2012. It has become one of my favorite movies of all time.

I loved it the first time I saw it, but couldn't finish it during the second viewing. The pacing is pretty bad and I didn't have the patience to make it to the final battle scene. I lose interest around the flying boat thing action scene, the dramatic impact has been sucked out of that one since Coulson's death was just an act.
