Spoiler:
Darth Vader is Luke's father.

Spoiler:
Luke and Leia are brother and sister.

Don't ruin films for others, it is rude.

Spoiler:
Daisy plays Kira, a character living on Tatooine with Max Von Sydow's character. Kira is a dusty survivalist tomboy. Sydow is a broken man from the prequel area that has become mostly cyborg. He is not force sensitive and for some reason collects artifacts that we've seen at critical points during the previous films, particularly ones relating to the Jedi and the Sith.

Spoiler:
The "fact" that this character is not force sensitive probably means it's not Anakin or any other former Jedi / Sith... probably Boba

why couldn't prequel era mean the OT films? They are after all prequels to The Force Awakens. Plus I thought they were going to try and distance themselves from the PT

Did they ever actually say this? I always thought that was just fanboy wishful thinking. I don't recall ever hearing an official word regarding that.

Anakin Skywalker.

Evidence:

He's a prequel character.

Sith connection.

His identity will shock the audience. Is some second-tier character going to shock anyone?

He's living on Tattooine, his old home. Why would the movie go back to Tattooine again? The Skywalker family is the only connection to that world.

He's a cyborg.

He's watching over his granddaughter.

Max von Sydow is in his eighties, the same age Anakin would be at this point in the timeline.

There's a Darth Vader flashback that takes place on Endor. In this flashback we will learn that Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker survived. If they're going to do a flashback with Vader, it must be for something huge. This is Luke's stunning reveal.

It might even explain why Anakin's 'force ghost' in the last ROTJ revision was that of his younger, pre-Sith self. Luke never actually interacted with the ghosts at the end, so they might have just been a vision of some kind. Also keep in mind that we never saw Anakin/Vader fade away to become a force ghost, and he was never taught how to become one, either. This also mitigates a sucky change made to ROTJ if those weren't actual force ghosts Luke was looking at.

Have at it, fanboys...
Spoiler:
That would be awful and a total fucking cop out if something like that was pulled. I can't see it happening as that's George Lucas level bullshit. I think Abrams is smarter than to pull something like that in the comeback film for the franchise.

Wow my suggestion of Jar Jar Binks might be the reasonable one.

That's why I call bullshit on the whole thing. None of the major characters fit and the farther down the list you go to find characters that fit the less impact the whole concept has.

If it turns out to be either Boba Fett or Anakin I will rip my seat out from the floor and charge the screen in a blind rage.

I'd be okay if it was Boba Fett honestly. There are some reasonable ways that his return could be explained. If it turns out that it is Anakin this film can go fuck itself. I really don't think Abrams is dumb enough to do that though.

What if it's one of Annie's childhood friends? He's holding the helmet and remembering the good old days when they were kids on Tatooine.

It's Darth Maul. Somehow he miraculously survived. Half human and from the hips down; half machine. He's the one in the forest walking with the limp because his body is still adapting.

See post 5627

Also, Maul was never human. He is a Zabrak.

Few other things from the spoiler report:
Spoiler:
Chewie has a robotic arm. Eh, sounds like bs.
Lupita is Luke's apprentice and Boyega's eventual love interest.
Driver wears a mask b/c half his face is scarred. Dunno about that. Isn't he the pretty boy type? Why cover him up? Just so he gets the Vader helmet?

I don't think they'd cast Sydow to have a major/controversial part. I think they just gave him a small but interesting part.

I thought it might have been Uncle Owen, but then I realized they said PREQUEL Trilogy and not the original one. Although I guess he was in the Prequel Trilogy too, right?

The rumor about Chewie was apparently considered, but not used - so maybe that guy saw an early draft of the script and not any of the actual movie.

It sounds stupid, but it worked pretty well in the animated series. Plus, it led to an epic fight between Sidious versus Maul and Maul's brother.

The report also said Lando was in the script but far as we know BDW wasn't in it and I don't think they'd get someone else to play Lando.

I hope Mace Windu shows up and tries to double high five someone, then he gets a sad look on his face. Sam Jackson could play that perfectly.

Plus:

Spoiler:
They never concluded Darth Maul's story, so in canon, he is still alive. The Clone Wars left quite a few characters dangling out there that can be used. (Ahsoka, Ventress, Cad Bane )

Wasn't the Plagueis novel canon? In that:
Spoiler:
Plagueis was still Sidious's master while Maul was working for Sidious. And they said Maul wasn't a fully trained Sith, more of an errand boy.

It's Natalie Portman's character. She didn't die during childbirth.
