^^ If that ending spoiler is true -- that takes some SERIOUS balls... and I'd love it. I wouldn't love it in the practical sense that appeals to my youth and everything I love about SW, I love it because it brings so much frickin anticipation and mystery around the second movie. It also allows the next gen of characters to evolve without us all making comparisons to this and that old character.

^
Spoiler:
Maybe, but it would still suck not to see Luke and Han interact at least once in the film.

I dunno if that actually is true it's kind of a cop out if you ask me.

Spoiler:
This film has basically been sold to fans as a reuniting of the Original Trilogy cast. I guess it depends on how small his part is but if it's really just him showing up at the end and a cliffhanger to Episode VIII I'll be slightly disappointed.

Maybe. How has the film been sold though?

Technically speaking aside production news and photos, what have we officially been marketed? All I can think of is the teaser.

As a movie guy, whatever I may believe ends up being just rumor anyway. I know the cast is back. But I also know we have a new set of films too.

It seems that a lot of how they're drawing in long-term fans is with the Original Trilogy cast. I've expected a blend of new and old all along but I just think that spoiler is weak if true.

Maybe. But it may a narratively strong thing too.

Do you think that cuz you like Luke? Are you a franchise lover?

I only really like SW and ESB. Passively like RoTJ cuz how it extreme it is in it's quality. I care about the films. I care fuck all for the franchise. I cherry pick what I like cuz I don't want to waste time w/ crap. Saying that... it is a franchise ripe for exploration in film just seeing how big it is of a franchise that we've seen in various formats. So that excites me.

Luke is obviously a big draw. I mean his story was the bulk of the Original Trilogy so him coming back is something that has me excited about this film. I doubt that I'm the only one who feels that way. I love the Original Trilogy but hate the Prequel Trilogy. The merits of Return of the Jedi have been discussed quite a bit. It isn't perfect but isn't as bad as some of its detractors would have you believe and better than the Prequel Trilogy by a long shot.

Sounds like a cool ending. I'd be happy to see a female Jedi and her flying the Falcon.

As for Luke's part - seems fine, leaves people wanting to see the next movie.

So does this thread no longer require spoiler tags when discussing rumored plot points? If so, I think I'll be staying out of this thread until late December.

No one has really said anything too much. Just some very vague posts but nothing that's going to ruin the film.

Knowing Abrams, most leaked info about the plot will be decoy anyway.

I seriously doubt the movie will end on any kind of cliffhanger, even a "happy" one, as described above. The other two "first" films of each trilogy were complete stories in and of themselves - it's always the second film in the trilogies that have more of a cliffhanger ending.

And why would Hamill slim down so quickly just for that? Maybe he just wanted to get in shape early and do other stuff, too?

Also remember rumor #2489 where Luke:
Spoiler:
is guarding a super Sith tomb.

I love how people can't help but discuss things in spoiler tags...without spoiler tags.

Latest rumor: This guy (Robert Boulter) might be playing
Spoiler:
young Luke Skywalker.

Spoiler:
I'm still not sold on the flashback idea, but perhaps there's something to it considering the previous rumor about Billie Lourd playing Leia. Maybe they will do some digital trickery to make them more closely resemble the original actors? Otherwise, having this dude playing an OT-era Luke in the same film with Mark Hamill will just be distracting...

MSW had another spoiler report that indicated at least one of the flashbacks in the movie is done as a Force vision: The little blue alien character has Han and co. join hands and shows them a flashback of Luke discovering dead Padawans inside an academy.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015, D: Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fis

Spoiler:
The idea of an actor playing a younger version of Luke in a flashback when Hamill is the film seems like kind of an odd idea I agree. I guess it depends what the scene would be and how its handled but I dunno.

I wonder if the rumor from a while back about a Vader flashback is true. While it would be kind of cool seeing him on-screen again I don't want a bunch of stuff like that shoehorned into this film unless it really fits or is necessary to the story.

Spoiler:
Yeah, not sure about having flashbacks here. That's now two rumored flashbacks?
1) Vader, Leia and Inquistors.
2) Luke around dead bodies, saber falling down.

Wouldn't it be funny if the rumors are true but not part of the actual movie? Just footage that will later be released as web shorts leading up to the movie's release.

The folks over at Bantha Banter are reporting yet another new leaked plot ...

Apparently the movie opens on an area in ruins, wreckage and debris strewn all over. Through a series of flashbacks throughout the movie, we learn a troop transport has blown up in the skies over New Yavin. A series of intertwined stories will explain this later.

We also learn that Luke has been teaching at the Jedi Academy this whole time. After his robotic hand is diagnosed with rust, he takes a turn to the Dark Side. With the help of one of his Padawans, he begins manufacturing blue milk. This eventually lead to a run in with the Hutts who secretly sell blue milk in their cantinas, Los Pollo Huttanos.

In the begining of this video J.J. Abrams mentions
Spoiler:
The idea of making luke skywalker a villain.
It's the first question at the very beginning of the video. He denies it like a politician would. If they did that though it would undermine ROTJ and the ending to that.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015, D: Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fis

Spoiler:
I really don't see that happening at all. There'd have to be a really good explanation for Luke to turn and even if there was I'd have a hard time accepting it. To me that just seems like some crackpot theory but I really don't think Abrams would do that.
