If you zoom in on the opening images in the trailer, you will see this is raising that dust trail:

Seeing Han and Chewey together again at the end brought a smile to my face.

Now I need to see Luke and Senior citizen Leia in the next teaser.

I'm looking forward to this even more now, but this is still 8 months away and I don't want the year to end that fast.

It's curious that there's not a single shot of C-3PO in either the trailer or any of the behind the scenes pictures. Wonder why...

I feel like Harrison Ford may have crashed that plane just to avoid having to go to the Star Wars Celebration. It'll be funny if he turns up doing press for Age of Adeline.

Some awkward edits in there.

I get that, but isn't that exactly why trotting these characters out for one final hurrah could potentially undermine some of the imagination these characters inspired? Return of the Jedi felt like a definitive ending for the story and the characters, leaving it up to the fans to imagine what happens next.

I'm sure tons of people assumed that Han and Leia got together, but what if the new movie reveals that Leia ended up marrying some douche politician instead, for the good of the galaxy or something? That might create some great conflict for the characters in the film, but we just spent 30 years assuming that they lived happily ever after. We all imagined what great adventures Luke went on after he became a full-fledged Jedi, but what if the new movie pulls a The Dark Knight Rises, and reveals that he quickly went into retirement after his greatest challenge? What if it turns out that gay marriage was outlawed after the Empire's defeat, and R2D2 and C3PO simply drifted apart?

This film is going to establish a new canon for these characters that have been living on in our imagination for 30 years, and we may not like what they come up with. I would have preferred they just let these characters live on in our minds, instead of going the geriaction route. Reading about all of these people getting chills and even being brought to tears by seeing these two characters again, I can't help but wonder if they are being set up for disappointment. Perhaps not Phantom Menace levels of devastation, but this time the movie is playing with characters we truly care about. I think I have a better chance to enjoy the movie with lower expectations, because I doubt any movie can recapture the feeling legions of fans got while discovering the first couple films in their youth.

I just wish they could have put something more dynamic than a hokey out of context bit.
I think you got all that mixed up. The teaser was a whole pile of meh. This trailer had a great amount of build up and the final shot of the trailer was the cherry on top. Though definitely an out-of-context scene, it announces that Star Wars is back (and it's not the prequels we all hated). The ending is the highlight of this new trailer.

The sight of Harrison Ford in costume and Chewie does not signify that these movies will be the Star Wars we grew up with. Look at how Indiana Jones 4 turned out. The most important factor here is a great story/script, not how many original actors they brought back.

Although you make a valid point (as do those that remind us that everyone was also excited when the Episode I trailer was released), look at most everyone's reaction to that final shot. To them that was the signifier that the Star Wars of their childhood is back.

I'm just not feeling these Trailers. The only thing that got me excited was seeing the Downed Star Destroyer, and the Storm Trooper getting saved by a Jedi.

It seems like they're hinting at some ST switching sides turning Double Agent so the Rebels can enter some kind of secret base.

I'm more excited for The Full Trailer will hopefully finally have Luke, Han, and Leia back together.

"Home" is the hearts of legions of Star Wars fans everywhere. Seriously, I bet that line was decided upon with the trailers in mind.

All valid.

But for me, if Harrison Ford is as good in this movie as he was on Jimmy Kimmel a year or so back, it will be worth it.

Did he play Han Solo in a skit or something? He's usually very awkward and stilted in talk show interviews.

Here's his appearance on Kimmel that I assume is the one being referenced, as it was awesome:

Nobody said he was crazy about the existence of a practical version of this droid prop. We just said that shot in the teaser was CGI. And there's visual proof in that teaser that it's a CGI shot.

Yeah, that's it. If ford can just find the energy to ham it up like that in the new movie then I'll be a-ok with whatever.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (12/18/2015, Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fi

I was watching the live Celebration stream and they were interviewing concept artist Doug Chiang, who did tons of design work for the prequels. I thought it was curious they hired him to work on Episode VII, but he said he always wanted to channel the Ralph McQuarrie/Joe Johnston aesthetic with his Star Wars designs and was finally given that opportunity for the new film.

They are clearly going for nostalgia with the locations, but it seems like a veiled attempt to avoid the accusations of unoriginality by making them different planets. From the trailers alone we see desert, snow and forest scenes -- all iconic looking and hit that sweet spot for OT fanboys. But, hey - it's fresh because: "It's not Tatooine again, guys. It's called Jakku!

I've said this before, but I'd love to see more exotic, alien worlds that (aesthetically speaking) haven't been depicted in a SW movie before. Fingers crossed we'll see that eventually... and hopefully executed with practical effects.

What terrains haven't been used to make a planet we haven't seen?

Desert (Tattoine)
Snow (Hoth)
Jungle (Dagobah)
Forest (Endor)
Gaseous (Bespin)
Water (Kamino)
Volcanic (Mustafar)
Industrial (Coruscant)

Really what else is there that we haven't already seen? Mountainous? That's all I can think of.

Maybe I'm just nit-picking, but it doesn't have to be limited to earth terrain. Who says the grass has to be green and the sky blue?

Something tropical or jungle-like might be cool.
