How'd that work out? I know they mucked a lot of continuity in the series. The films and show are connected too, no?

Also Highlander 2 doesn't exist. It just doesn't.

that is a mistake. i think it is too soon to reboot the character honestly, but I think a soft reboot is a poor decision. For instance, if it is a continuation of the first films...who will the upcoming villains be? Joker is in Arkham Asylum I am sure, but Heath Ledger is dead. I can't see the Joker being brought back with a different actor if this batman is "related" to the nolan films.

Again, until we hear it from the cast or, especially, writers and director, one can't go off of Internet rumor.

The Highlander franchise is a huge clusterfuck in terms of continuity. And rightly so. The first movie tells a self-contained story with a definite ending. There should have been no sequels, just prequels featuring Ramirez and the other immortals before the Gathering.
I love it for how batshit insane it is. And Michael Ironside makes it a hoot, along with Sean Connery's "you wouldn't believe how much they paid me for this shit" grin. Is it a worthy followup to Highlander? Fuck no. But it's such a delightful mess of a movie on its own.

When the premise is "There can be only one" and then the movie goes out and makes sure that happens, you're right that there shouldn't have been any sequels (only prequels) and certainly not one that goes into the sci-fi realm and introduces another planet and some planetary shield and some other crap. I remember as a kid being so excited to rent it, too. "Hey, if it was bad, Sean Connery wouldn't have agreed to come back, right?" Ah, youth.

I remember reading the soft reboot thing that suggested some sort of tie to like 2.5 of the 3 Nolan films and I don't think it was every really alleged to be from a credible source.
Expecting an audience to accept half of TDKR and disregard the other half is dumb even by Hollywood standards but wholly believable coming from the mind of some anonymous fanboy.

It's based off of Twitter statistics, and Twitter, perhaps social media in general, seems to be much more popular among young (attention-seeking?) females.

Probably true. I know times have changed and people of all sorts go to Comicon now from all kinds of different industries, but I doubt if you took a sampling of Comic con fans in attendance, that you'd end up with more than half being female and Teen Wolf being the third hottest topic. But what do I know? Certainly the WW reveal being tweeted out also helped the film's standing in terms of retweets.

What's amazing to me is that prequels were the obvious solution, but they bent over backwards to avoid that. Highlander II came up with a ridiculous and convoluted explanation for why the ending of the first movie didn't count, and the rest of the sequels and TV shows just ignored the issue entirely. All they had to do was make sure that every follow-up took place before 1985 and they were golden. It boggles the mind.

The look of horror on Batman's face is priceless, lol!
What I don't get is why does it matter if there's continuity, or if this is a hard or soft reboot? I mean, when I played Arkham City I wasn't thinking "now which Batman is this? Why is Bane alive? I'm totally lost here!" It's goddamn Batman. We all know who he is, what his story is, and who his villains are. He can transcend any rigid storyline of previous films, games and books. It will still make sense and attract fans.

I don't give a shit if they totally ignore Nolan's trilogy. I'm looking forward to a less brooding, more comic booky Batman.
