I'm sure they still saved more money splitting it up compared to two separate productions but it's a bit more complicated than just getting a free bonus movie out of it. The Salkinds were the first ones to try it with their Musketeer movies and they were promptly sued and now contracts require that everyone be paid again if the decision is made retroactively. So when they double the salary of everyone involved and have to promote and distribute another film it's not as if they're laughing all the way to the bank with your ticket money.

Splitting Kill Bill was a terrible decision, there wasn't enough substance in there for two movies.

I think Kill Bill deserves every minute of its runtime and I'd hate to see it lose the hour it would need to lose to become a 3-hour single film.
I also think said 3-hour single film would need a break or intermission at the halfway mark every bit as much as the 4-hour version does and it almost certainly wouldn't have had one.

2.5 hours would have been plenty.

Honestly, I really want it to be good. Superfriends and DC comics were a vital part of my childhood. Even now my kids watch a lot of the DC cartoons and Justice League movies and shows. But this thread started from a strict Batman vs. Superman movie 196 pages ago to a Justice League movie. Nothing we've read indicates this production is going smoothly. I wish I could be optimistic, but at this point, I have little to no hope this will usher in the DC universe in the fashion it should. Or I prefer my prediction that it's just going to be a hot mess with little fun.

If the first movie is awesome, all this Internet chatter is rendered meaningless.

And finding 90 minutes to excise is even more inconceivable.
The thing about Kill Bill is that the pacing of the chapters isn't awkward or off in any way. Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds are probably the most similar to Kill Bill in regards to the setpiece-y vignettes and I don't feel like the ones in Kill Bill are really any different than the ones in any other Tarantino film, there are just more of them, and they're all great.
So how do you hit your mythical 2.5 hours? Do you axe memorable chapters entirely or do you cut them down? And either way, what do you cut?
If you ask me, in general terms, "what's more reasonable, a 2.5 hour movie or a 4 hour movie?" I'm gonna say 2.5 on principle, and I think 2.5 hours is frequently overlong and self-indulgent, but I think there's room for 4-hour movies to exist and I'm glad they figured out a way to release it without cutting 90 minutes out of it.

I think Tarantino having a Roger Corman-type producer standing over him with a big stick insisting that under no circumstances whatsoever can the film exceed 120 minutes would do him wonders.

It's not so much thinking that Marvel's films walk on water. They've proven to be consistently good and have earned the praise they get. This is coming from someone who generally favors DC over Marvel. The problem I feel with this film is that every announcement or rumor about it just leaves me scratching my head wondering what they're thinking. I think the biggest issue this film has had all along is trying to cram too much shit into one film which in my opinion is stemming from DC and Warner wanting to have a DC Filn Universe that's instantly equivalent to the MCU. This is why I think that they should have done a more gradual build to everything rather than trying to blow their load in one film.

If this movie is successful, I still think this whole universe will be on shaky grounds. Now, if the Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy had kicked off this massive DC universe, even with the horrible misstep that is Man of Steel, I think we'd be a little more open and optimistic to its future. But they haven't yet proven anything overall. So even if this is well made, great story and successful, they have a massive hill to climb to keep its fans for future movies.

They didn't tell Cavill since he isn't going to be in part 1. Batman owns part 1. So the movie Cavill is going to be in isn't going to be split.

Jesus is afraid to compete against Batman
I never heard of the novel or the upcoming movie based upon it. I just thought it was funny that a Jesus movie is getting pushed to a new release date so it doesn't compete with Batman. So Easter 2016 won't be about Jesus. It'll be about the Batman.
Focus Features has shifted the release date for the adaptation of the Anne Rice novel Christ the Lord, Deadline reports. The film will now be released on March 11, 2016, twelve days earlier than originally scheduled.
The original release date put the film in theaters on the Wednesday before Easter. It also meant that Christ the Lord would go right up against Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice as well as the new Beverly Hills Cop, both of which are scheduled to open on March 25. Now Christ the Lord has gained some distance from Superman and Axel Foley.
Christ the Lord ill be directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh from an adaptation he scripted with his wife, Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh. The story focuses on Jesus’ childhood and his realization of his true identity and the circumstances of his birth. Production on the film reportedly began last September in Italy, although no actors in major roles have yet to be officially announced. Passion of the Christ producer Enzo Sisti is attached as an executive producer.

The BvS fight choreographer says the Bats/Supes fight will be epic. He says the movie will demonstrate Batman's martial arts capability like no other movie has ever done.

Just let Gareth Evans direct that scene.
