I can see right now this is going to be the new "Ewoks are the main reason people claim to not like ROTJ as much as the other two"
Her body was never that big an issue with me. My reservations have always been that nothing I have seen her in shows me that she projects believable authority or has any serious on camera charisma.
And frankly I'm a bit shocked at the response to this cover because, for as attractive as she looks, her "means business" expression still translates as "derp" to where I sit.
Maybe she'll be just fine and truly surprise the hell out of me. But at this point it would be a huge surprise.
-from Scott Mendelson's article at Forbes entitled 'Batman V Superman' Images Reveal Film Will Be In Color. I find that hilarious as there are clearly only three dominant colors in all the stills released- various shades of orange, teal and black. And when you squint and look at the cover, all three costumes read as black. Looks to me to be another needlessly joyless, desaturated, blue/green skewed, contrast jacked affair just like MoS which I found to be anything but natural looking.

I happened to catch a chunk of Man of Steel the other day while I was feeding my newborn. Say what you will about the film’s plot and character choices, and I have certainly said quite a bit over the years, but it is a visually stupendous motion picture. Zack Snyder’s would-be Superman reboot has a gorgeous naturalistic look throughout, giving the picture a genuinely “real world” feeling that goes well-beyond the whole “taking everything very seriously approach.”

Yeah, naturalistic is the last word I would choose to describe Man of Steel. It was desaturated to hell.

I still think Gina Carano would have been a great Wonder Woman if it wasn't for her complete lack of ability as an actor getting in the way.

Yeah, that acting thing... It's actually easier to find someone who looks the part than it is to find someone who can act the part. We take good acting for granted.

Uma Thurman comes to mind in Kill Bill. Her acting made you see how badass her character was, not her body type.
If this Gal lady can act; and be directed by a director who truly cares about establishing good/enjoyable characters, then she might turn out to be a great Wonder Woman.
But I don't really think Zack Snyder will pull that off.

Casting Wonder Woman as a skinny chick with no muscle tone is like if they would have cast the Spartan warriors in the 300 movie as skinny dudes with no muscles.
Gal Gadot simply does not look like a "warrior."

Thank god the internet wasn't around years ago, or else nerds would be bitching about how scrawny she is.

Oh come on now. That is in no way comparable at all. That was a completely different era. Adam West and Christopher Reeve weren't very muscular either. You can't compare the 60s/70s era to the modern era. That's dumb.

Christopher Reeve did bulk up a bit for the role, just not to the extent that Henry Cavill has.

True, but it was still a completely different era with different expectations, so it's not comparable to the modern era. Sean Connery wasn't as bulked up either in comparison to Daniel Craig. Back then bulking up wasn't considered getting ripped with single digit body fat and six pack abs. That started with the 80s with action stars like Arnold and Sly. Connery and Reeve were acceptable back then, but they would be laughed at today if they were cast, just like Gadot is being laughed at, because they don't fit the modern perception of an action star with the very low body fat and ripped abs.

Even in the Batman films starring Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, and Bale none of those actors were really ripped. They were all in good shape but none of them were huge.

Also, those movies are pretty campy. Even the first Burton movie is really campy. It is darker than any Batman media outside the comics before it, but it is still pretty campy in retrospect.
The modern movies are more serious, and so I think that's part of the reason why people want the actors to look more like the role they are supposed to be portraying. Keaton just wouldn't work well at all as the Batman of the Nolan movies for example. He just wouldn't be perceived well as a more serious Batman.
Edit to add: I just noticed you mentioned Bale as not being ripped. That's not really 100% accurate. He may not have been super ripped with single digit body fat and six pack abs, but he was still pretty big with big muscles.

The mention of Supes and eras. Reeve was Supes when the character was not a physically massive as he normally is now. His era's Superman was pretty much the size that Reeve got. He was a little smaller but whatever he sold it, minor size difference or not.

If we were casting just based on looks without any consideration for acting ability, I vote Katy Perry.

Bale was pretty fit but I imagine now, fans and directors would want 'American Psycho', fit Bale.

It's funny, because for all the criticism people have for Gadot's physical appearance at the end of the day I don't think anyone has come up with a significantly better suggestion. Actresses either don't have the build people seem to want, or the acting ability. Maybe there's an unknown out there that's closer, but otherwise i still feel fine with Gadot's look at the moment given all the other options and names thrown out there.

I will say this about Gadot- her facial features, moreso in profile, have an ethnic hint that serves the character. Personally I think she is far from drop dead stunning- but the cover photo is the first one of her that I find honestly attractive. And I think that has to do with her hair appearing to have more body compared to the first in costume promo shot though it's probably just the angle.

I think Gadot looks pretty good as a modern day Wonder Women. She's pretty and doesn't look too thin.
My only concern is her pretty distinctive accent that she had in the F&F movies. I know she's Israeli. Hopefully she has a decent American accent.
