I know about that too. It never went anywhere beyond the short though so I'm curious if they'll actually use the character again and bring back Kingsley.

Don't get me wrong, they've released enjoyable movies like both Avengers and Cap's movies. WB has done many things wrong over the years managing their superhero properties, but Marvel gets the benefit of the doubt far more than they deserve.
I wouldn't consider Marvel getting passes on Thor and Iron Man, I hear negativity regarding both Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 2/3 all the time on this forum, and critically they're on the lower end of Marvel movies go so their weaknesses seem accurately reflected to me. I don't think it's fair to include Hulk as a poor decision because of the rights issue (and i'd also argue the performance of the previous Hulk movie means Marvel is in no rush to buy back those rights, but I think we've had that discussion before).

In any case, Marvel has certainly gotten some criticism but not on the level of WB/DC for good reason. Definitely not any sort of free pass from the wonderful folks on the internet in your examples.

Kingsley is still not the Mandarin either, but someone else is, and he's still out there.

That said, I fully believe that the short is nothing but fan service and will never be referenced in any future MCU film.

I like those films but the style doesn't work for all DC characters.
Which is one of the big things that Marvel gets right. As films, Thor has a very different tone than Iron Man. Ant-Man has a different tone than Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Yet they still manage to cross these universes over and have it make sense. With DC it just seems like they were so confused as to how to deal with this sort of crossover that they just picked one property's tone and applied it to the rest.

It runs after the 30-minute special on Legends of Tomorrow, unless they're lumping it in together for a one-hour special.

Those two at least seem different and separate in tone and scope.

I'm still wavering on BvsS in the cinema - it's all-but a sequel to Man of Steel, and Man of Steel was terrible. But...

Y'all still making me laugh tho. News of Infinity War may have 60+ characters and people are like "Awesome I hope they include every minor character from Agents of Shield!" BVS has a bunch of characters and it's the worst idea ever.
ESTABLISHED characters making (probably] glorified cameos in a logical get-everyone-together-and-save-the-world kind of way, vs. UNestablished villains being added potentially to compete with Marvel/Civil War.

If the logic is sound in BvsS, great. But it looks like a desperate attempt to throw things at a wall and hope. Sadly.

I see "concern" more than hate. And it's borne of there only being one film in the DCCU; it being a poor film and a horrible Superman film; the idea of a DCCU ostensibly being dreamt up just to compete with Marvel; that the DCCU immediately jettisoned the very-popular Batman universe films (a new actor needn't have scrapped that history) AND apparently also completely ignoring the popular TV shows that had already established a coherent synergy and Universe!

So many decisions, so little (apparent) sense. And then piling on top of that rumour that it'll be packed with characters like Batman & Robin and Spider-man 3.

The concern is warranted. I hope it is ill-founded. I doubt it is.

They released the track listing of the soundtrack today and of course Superman gets the short end of the stick even in that aspect of the film.

I like both Thor films (the first more than the second), with no real interest in the character prior to watching it; the Mandarin seemed no more controversial than ruining Ducard and messing with Ra's... and was that even criticised much? Also, critiquing Marvel's decisions/shortcomings over a character "they don't own.. complete movie rights" to is... reaching.

Iron Man 2 was clearly just a stepping stone to Avengers. Thor 2 seems to be long term effect towards Infinite Wars. But otherwise, they were decent films. Iron Man 3... I got no defense for. Fuck that movie.
Just like the Norton Hulk was a flawed attempt at doing an anti-superhero film (since the Hulk really, really doesn't want the power or responsibility), Iron Man 3 was an awkward attempt at injecting non-hero realism to the aftermath of horrendous happenings. I thought the PTSD stuff was cliched, poorly portrayed and distracting, but people who have actually experienced similar things have frequently applauded either the attempt, execution or both.

And of course we have to include Ragarok.. cause who wouldn't want to see that in a 153 minute film?!"
Or just change everything about the plot/character for no reason (Catwoman), or make ill-thought-through additions (Superman's abandoned bastard son) or curious choices in what to make (Jonah Hex, Losers).

Re: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) (D: Snyder; S: Gadot)

It's been confirmed today that Supernatural and The Walking Dead star Lauren Cohan was cast in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in a top secret role, and we know who she'll be playing! It's a character who is vital to Batman's story, so read on for details...

Spoiler:
As you can see from the Tweet below, IMDb (before you bring up the fact that anyone can edit the cast lists on the site, I've NEVER seen their official Twitter account mention one of those unconfirmed additions) has confirmed that Lauren Cohan is playing Martha Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. While it's a little disappointing that The Walking Dead star hasn't been chosen for an ongoing role in these movies as someone like Batgirl, this is still a pretty cool bit of casting news. The trailer previously revealed that Watchmen's Jeffrey Dean Morgan - who will be getting to know Cohan very well on the Atlanta set of her AMC series in the coming months when he takes on the role of Negan - is playing Thomas Wayne and that we're getting another Bruce Wayne origin story. What do you guys think about Lauren Cohan playing Batman's mother

IDK, my main problem with the whole Mandarin thing is that if there was one major flaw with the Marvel movies is their villains have been generally bland save for Loki who was more of a sniveling brat than dangerous. So... when we get the Mandarin, played by Ben Kingsley no less, he started off as a bad ass and perhaps a true foe but then they turned it into a joke and we got the same old, forgettable baddie at the end with Pearce, who normally is a good actor, proclaiming "I AM THE MANDARIN!"

No you are not.
