The regurgitation doesn’t just go one way. There’s plenty of it coming from the pro side of the argument.

The thing is, the fans never left.
They didn't need a "warm hug."
SW fans are known for being among the most loyal and dedicated on the planet.
TFA was a needless exercise by Disney and Abrams, showing they didn't really understand who they were dealing with.

TLJ was also criticized for being like the old movies: ESB and ROTJ.

The Prequels turned Anakin into a young whiny bitch and TLJ turned Luke into an old whiny bitch. Perhaps Lando can be ruined for The Rise Of Skywalker.

I hope the porgs rise up and get their revenge on Chewy.

I'm a lifelong fan of Star Wars (as I said earlier, saw two of the three original releases in the theater) and I LOVED TFA and TLJ. So maybe all SW fans don't agree with your view?

It’s interesting that the new Star Wars films are being defended by treating Daisy Ridley as a sexualized object. I don’t recall criticism of male actors being defended this way.
Didn’t people claim critics of TLJ and Rey’s character were sexists and misogynists?

Calling Rey a Mary Sue seemed pretty sexist and misogynistic to me.

Can both comments be sexist? Or is it only one or the other?

It's not about sides. It's about CONSTANTLY hearing about TFA and TLJ in threads about neither movie.

Hard to do when this movie is the final chapter with those as the first two. At any rate, I'm overall happy this is finally coming to an end. They need to retire these movies for a few years and start with something that's fresh and new.

Someone needs to rewatch the original trilogy. Luke has been a "whiny bitch" from the very beginning.

Lots of foggy memories about the original trilogy in these threads.

I mean considering this is a sequel to those two films I think that it’s pretty natural to discuss them when this film is supposed to be building off of and concluding events from previous films.

What are you trying to say? What was sexist when talking about Luke Skywalker?

You don't remember when you were making fun of the size of his lightsaber?

Of course not.
I wasn't speaking about ALL Star Wars fans.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (12/20/19, W/D: J.J. Abrams)

I'm just tired of people making straw men out of my criticisms. "No one hates SW movies more than SW fans." "Make it just like the old movies!/No, no, try something new! Make up your mind!" Um, no, I happen to love well-made SW movies. There's been a couple of those. Maybe even a few. I don't like poorly made SW movies. There's been an overabundance of those, in fact an entire prequel trilogy. As in, poorly conceived, poorly executed, poorly written, etc. All IMO, as with all criticism. For me, it all comes down to the quality of the filmmaking, not nostalgia or expectations. That's all. I'm hoping TROS is one of the good ones, but that's no small task for Abrams, given the lead-in.

And I don't think the Mary Sue charge is sexist. To me, it's a fair criticism of poor character development.

I doubt she would have been called that if her character had been male instead of female.

Not from me. I can argue in favor of TLJ all year long, but this is the wrong thread to bring up those arguments again. If you still need to vent about TLJ, it has its own thread. Even if there are other bad actors on this thread, pointing at them doesn't excuse your own bad behavior.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (12/20/19, W/D: J.J. Abrams)

I think if your post is dominated with criticisms of TFA and TLJ, then it doesn’t belong in this thread. If your post relates something about TFA and TLJ to Episode 9, then I think it’s relevant.

For example, if you say you’re mad they killed Snoke, and now they had to dig up The Emperor, that’s a relevant point. I’m very worried on how they will bring back The Emperor that doesn’t diminish the ending of ROTJ, and that’s because Rian Johnson killed Snoke and left the next movie without a villain if they decided to redeem Kylo Ren.

You're just angry because it didn't wasn't the movie you wanted to see.
You're just angry because it didn't match your headcanon.
The OT did something similar and you didn't complain.
You didn't want to see something new.
It's just a children's movie about space wizards and laser swords.
You didn't like it because it had a girl Jedi and you don't think girls can be strong and heroic.

That's fair. "Marty Stu," in that case (Frank Miller came up with that, I think). Doesn't have the same ring. I have heard male characters described as Mary Sue. Batman, for example.
