Re: Lost -- "The Candidate" -- 05/04/10
MIB's plan for the submarine bomb doesn't make sense to me. If we believe the bomb wouldn't have killed the candidates without Sawyer's actions, then what would have happened if Jack never discovered the bomb? What if Hurley found the first aid kit and Jack didn't need a t-shirt out of the knapsack?
Why?
Remember at the bear cages when Sawyer mentioned that Kate could be killed because her name was crossed off?
Now consider that right after MiB switched the bags, he asked Jack if he had changed his mind. I have no doubt that the MiB was going to hurt Kate to get Jack on the sub. When she got shot, he knew Jack would need to open the bag.

I began calling him Locke-ness almost immediately after the reveal that he wasn't the Original Locke. However, this term never took off.

Okay. So the SIDEWAYS timeline is supposed to fold into the "main" timeline where Sun and Jin just died very soon (in fact I expected it to be in this episode). When the split is undone will that result in reviving characters that have died (i.e. the Kwons, Locke, Sayid, Charlie, etc.)?
I have said all along and will continue to say it until I am proven wrong on the show that the island timeline will create the sideways timeline.
MIB said he had the power to bring Nadia back to Sayid. If he has that power, he can also bring Sun and Jin back. Unless he was just lying to manipulate them all into the same place...but it appears that there is going to be a reset.
Given clues: the scar on Jack's neck when he's on the plane in the first episode of the season matches the scar on his neck he got when the bomb went off. Dr. Chang is in 2004 and doesn't look a day older. So he's somehow saved from the past to be in 2004.
Somebody who does not think my theory is sound please explain to me how the things in the sideways timeline suggests it takes place after the events we have seen on the island during this season? What clues are you seeing to suggest that the sideways timeline is somehow going to "fold" into the island timeline and revive dead characters and put them back on the island?

Because he can't kill them. He had to manipulate them to try to gain their trust so they could be trick into destroying each other. I thought it was quite easy to figure out!

Re: Lost -- "The Candidate" -- 05/04/10
So I think it's now pretty clear how Lost is going to play out. The "alternate" timeline where everyone is still alive (and Sun/Jin are happily awaiting the birth of their daughter) is going to be the final reality and will give us our happy ending. The island timeline is going to be erased and the island will disappear/be destroyed. I'm not sure how all that's going to happen and I wouldn't care to guess at this point but I'm pretty sure that Desmond will play a major role. Basically we're going to get a Newhart ending -- it was all a dream -- albeit a little bit more complicated than that.
I usually react strongly to emotionally charged events like Sun/Jin dying, but I think I actually yawned last night during this scene. The writers really screwed the pooch with the way they've constructed this season. We know that everyone is still alive in the other timeline so there is little to no emotional impact when a major character dies.

As to how it comes to pass....the only way I see it happening right now is Desmond and his ability to survive the islands electomagnetic properties is key. I think he will figure out a way to use it to take him and Jack back to 1977 to stop the bomb from going off. I am so convinced that this will end up back in 1977 before the end of the series that if there was a betting pool I'd put money down.

I'm convinced that when this show is over, people will still be looking for zebras.
Just ran across the first online comment I've seen in the aftermath of last night's show from someone who's still arguing that MiB is the good guy. Apparently he's just killing everyone off to pave the way for the alternate timeline, where everyone is happy, to exist.
Right.

They should end the series with Lapidus in the alt timeline after everybody remembers their time on the island and he says to them all, "It looks like everybody got their memories back!" They all share a hearty laugh with heads thrown back. Freeze frame. Fade to black. LOST.

I liked Lapidus. He made some funny faces when he was confused or caught off guard. Anyway, I think the show will end with Flocke being stuck on the island still and Jacob, or the person who replaces him, calling the Black Rock to the island to restart the game.
I have a feeling the show will end up basically as they keep repeating the game until something changes and Flocke is able to get out, but we won't ever see it since Jack will stay on the island.
I wouldn't be surprised if they set it up so that a year or two from now there could be a Lost movie franchise in the works. I hope so at least.

My guess is this group of Losties will end the cycle and Smokey will either be stuck permanently on the island ALONE or be banished to a phantom zone of sorts.

this show is racist, they kill off the non-caucasians, and we're left with all-white cast, just as bad as the cast and ethnic retardation of ABC's other show: 'V'

a hint of all four, but still there's still a tad bit of truth in my statement... Sun and Jin should come back in Rambo style and blow everyone away with a bazooka. 'fuck y'all bunch of honkies and crackers'

under all that hair and fat ... yes.
under my fantasy scenario Hurley hands them the ammo
(and yes you can tell I'm pissed that Sun and Jin bit the dust)

at least 'Flash Forward' has the balls to cast an Asian in one of the lead roles. 'Lost' was one of the few shows that had a great multi-ethnic cast.

The C4 bomb backpack switch was way too telegraphed and cheapened the scene in the sub.
Yep. They came and went here, but of course they were on screen during Jin & Sun's big moment. Fuckers. ![Mad](/images/smilies/mad.gif)
I don't think anyone has mentioned it in about 3 or 4 episodes. I postulated that during Ab Aeterno and let it ride there.
I buy into a lot of things in this show but I still don't buy that MIB was Smokey until it was convenient to do so.
100% in agreement. I've always maintained that out of the original Losties, Jin, Sun and Sayid were my three faves, at least until Desmond and Faraday came along. So you would think all three dying would hit me pretty hard. All three deaths had zero impact due to them screwing the pooch this year. What was the fucking point of making Sayid a zombie? Redemption? Seriously? Bullshit. It served no purpose. Much like Locke, Sayid died earlier in the season.
Jin & Sun? Their story should have resolved itself long ago. Neither character served a purpose at all this season, which is probably why they were offed. I also thought about the kid, but their relationship was never about making a kid, it was about love persevering despite all the obstacles, which in the end it did. Also, like mentioned, it's hard to feel grief when they are still appearing in the sideways flashes. Not to mention if you are one of the original Losties, you don't really die anyway, you'll pop up somewhere.
I think I felt worse for Lapidus because of all these factors. He was an innocent bystander and likely won't be popping up again.

So in S4, when Keamy's men have a group with several candidates pinned down, why would MiB show up to help? And what did Ben do to 'call' him? I'm really curious to see if all the MiB/Jacob stuff ends up enriching a rewatch of the entire show, or if it highlights inconsistencies that make it seem like they made it up as they went along.
