Look what is sitting right on the shelf in plain sight.
(Screengrab Inside)
So Hurley is responsible for the submarine deaths because his not finding the first aid kit forced Jack to open the knapsack.

Given Whidmore's team set the explosives, Flocke wouldn't have been responsible for their deaths. It was just a poor excuse from the writers to get the group on the sub.

So I think it's now pretty clear how Lost is going to play out. The "alternate" timeline where everyone is still alive (and Sun/Jin are happily awaiting the birth of their daughter) is going to be the final reality and will give us our happy ending. The island timeline is going to be erased and the island will disappear/be destroyed. I'm not sure how all that's going to happen and I wouldn't care to guess at this point but I'm pretty sure that Desmond will play a major role. Basically we're going to get a Newhart ending -- it was all a dream -- albeit a little bit more complicated than that.
I usually react strongly to emotionally charged events like Sun/Jin dying, but I think I actually yawned last night during this scene. The writers really screwed the pooch with the way they've constructed this season. We know that everyone is still alive in the other timeline so there is little to no emotional impact when a major character dies.

Good catch, however were they not in 2 totally different sections of the sub? I recall when they were asking Lapidus questions of how long it would take to surface and whatnot that they did it by walkie-talkie. So they were not close to each other when Hurley was looking around for the 1st aid kid.

They should end the series with Lapidus in the alt timeline after everybody remembers their time on the island and he says to them all, "It looks like everybody got their memories back!" They all share a hearty laugh with heads thrown back. Freeze frame. Fade to black. LOST.

A couple things on Jin & Sun - - Well Jin mostly.. he has never met their kid so there may be a little disconnect there plus everybody off island thinks he is dead, including his daughter.
He probably hasn't spoken Korean in the past 3 years and has grown more confortable in English.
Is Claire still a candidate or was her name crossed out? Flocke may have gotten all the candidates to kill themselves since it is a huge pain in the ass to get them all to agree to leave. With all the candidates dead save one he can easily control, it may be easier for him to leave.

I don't disagree, I'm just saying he doesn't look 'weak.' ![Smilie](/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Yeah, that was my thinking. She's taken care of with Grandma, he just wanted to be with his wife.

Re: Lost -- "The Candidate" -- 05/04/10
My wife teared up pretty bigtime for Jin and Sun. I haven't felt a connection to any of the characters for years, so I looked at it much more cynically ("Man, the finale must be close...they are killing people off like crazy"). But it was a nice moment for them, I've always liked their characters and the actors. I'm choosing to forget the stupid "Can't Speak English" episodes and though it would have been nice to say something about their daughter during that scene, I understand it would have just made it that much harder to decide what to do for everyone involved. It can go without saying, IMHO.
I did laugh when they got into the gunfight at the sub. If I were Jack, the first thing I would have said to Flocke would be "Go get 'em." I mean, they have an invulnerable monster that can take out groups of people with no effort. In fact, he did it IN THIS EPISODE. But they still had to shoot it out with a bunch of people to take the sub, simply so Kate could get shot. Here's a tip, writers...don't give one of your characters super powers and then forget they have them.
At this point, I have no idea who's good, who's bad, or what the endgame will be. I'll just keep watching the last few episodes in the hopes that something gets resolved in some way that sort of makes sense.

I'm still convinced that the reason the MiB's name has not been revealed is because he's one of the current characters.

^^^
I've posted before about MiB being unnamed and I believe it has to do with the Biblical story of Jacob where he fights (and defeats) an unnamed angel in a place called "Penuel". I think in keeping with this symbolism, the writers have kept him unnamed.

One thing worth noting that I don't think has been mentioned here: The remaining group of Losties is the same group that was on Ben's list at the end of season 2. I don't know the significance, just putting it out there.

I don't know how she swallowed a cow;
She swallowed the cow to catch the dog,
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly;
I don't know why she swallowed a fly - Perhaps she'll die!
There was an old lady who swallowed a horse...
She's dead, of course!

Re: Lost -- "The Candidate" -- 05/04/10
This is why people don't see the answers in the show.
I have said all along and will continue to say it until I am proven wrong on the show that the island timeline will create the sideways timeline.
MIB said he had the power to bring Nadia back to Sayid. If he has that power, he can also bring Sun and Jin back. Unless he was just lying to manipulate them all into the same place...but it appears that there is going to be a reset.
Given clues: the scar on Jack's neck when he's on the plane in the first episode of the season matches the scar on his neck he got when the bomb went off. Dr. Chang is in 2004 and doesn't look a day older. So he's somehow saved from the past to be in 2004.
Somebody who does not think my theory is sound please explain to me how the things in the sideways timeline suggests it takes place after the events we have seen on the island during this season? What clues are you seeing to suggest that the sideways timeline is somehow going to "fold" into the island timeline and revive dead characters and put them back on the island?
