I was wondering that too, but maybe they'll emphasize her stuff more in the show. I seem to remember getting annoyed when it would come to the Dany's chapters when I first read it.

It doesn't pay off in the sense of bringing her to Westeros, but I think there's enough pay off with her plot to keep people engaged. I predict that Viserys's crowning will be one of the high points of the season for most people.

I do wonder if the actors from that plot line ever see any of their castmates.

Eh that plotline continues to get more interesting so I see no worries there. And yeah, the golden crown..I think that might be episode six..Is going to be a big highlight of the season.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

In the scene last night where Viserys got the whip around his neck, did I miss something? In the book Dany prepares fresh clothes for Viserys, and sends one of her servant girls to tell him about it. The serving girl tells Viserys that Dany "commands" him to wear the clothes, which sets him off in a fit of rage ("You do not command me, blah blah blah"). But in the show last night, there was no mention of the clothes, or exactly what set Viserys off. I think he still talked about being commanded by Dany, but the context wasn't there.

It's no big deal, Viserys is the kind of person who gets enraged over anything. I just thought it odd that he confronted Dany out of the blue. She didn't "command" anything in that scene. It just seemed a little disjointed.

When in the books did we learn of the manner of Brandon's death?

She commanded the entire horde to stop until she says otherwise, I think that's close enough.

I took it that he was ticked she ordered the whole caravan to halt.

He wanted to keep going, but had to stop because Dany wanted to stop.

I wonder how graphic they will get with Drogo's cut nipple. Those scenes gave me the heebie-jeebies in the book.

At this point people are still expecting her to show up in Westeros with a massive army. When that doesn't happen by the end of the season, I think there'll be people asking, "Well, what the hell is the point of that?"

I agree that her story does get more interesting eventually, but that's only in Book 3 -- she spends Book 2 treading water and looking for a plot. And even by the end of Book 3, she hasn't done anything to affect the main plot in Westeros and we only get the first hints that main characters are going to come to her.

I really think that at some point after the Crown of Gold people are going to start complaining about her story the the same way they complained about the flash sideways in Lost.

I rewatched this tonight. Loved the Ser Duncan the Tall reference. I suppose that was probably in the book, but now that I've read all the Dunk and Egg tales it really stood out.

Bump

I agree with this. I like Ned Stark a lot. He's got honor and principles - unfortunately, too much for the situation he's in, and his priorities are a bit screwed up (king over family to take the job in the first place).

It's been a couple of years since I re-read, but my impression was that Ned did what he thought he was honor bound to do. Plus, he thought he had the situation under control (which of course, he didn't...outmaneuvered).

I think his biggest blunder was to under estimate Cersi. Warning her of his plan thinking she would run and hide. Had he arrested the Lannisters and continued with his plan it had a chance.

Ned and Varys are like polar opposites that are after the same thing, what they see is best for the Kingdom. Ned wants to do what is honorable (a trait all Lords and Knights are suppose to live by) for the Kingdom, while Varys is trying to do what will keep the Kingdom in peace.

Tywin does what he thinks is right, yet people have no problem seeing him as a bad guy. But because Ned's motivations are justified by "honor" he gets a pass.

Isn't it because Tywin does what is right for Twyin, while Ned clearly doesn't do what is right for Ned?

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

Tywin isn't doing what he thinks is right, he's selfish. He does what's best for him and his house. He treats people like trash, like his son. He has been very cruel to Tyrion..Incredibly so. He comes across as a villain. I can think of a lot of evil things he's done. And as for his personality, well, he's a dick.

Ned is a nice guy who treats people well. Ned is doing what he thinks is RIGHT, honorably and morally. Tywin definitely is not. So you could say Ned is good and Tywin is bad. I don't like Ned that much as a character, because he's dumb. Well, not dumb really..but naive when it comes to politics and his decisions were pissing me off..Like thinking he had things under control after speaking to Cersei. You can say Ned's decisions were harmful in the end, but his intentions were good. I wouldn't be surprised if Tywin had more bad intentions every day before breakfast than Ned had in his entire life.

Exactly.

Little Finger and Verys are seen alike in their secrets and agendas, but one is concerned for himself while the other only has the Kingdom at mind.

So casting Asha:
http://winter-is-coming.net/2011/05/...sha/#more-7958

Seems like most people want Noomi Rapace, but they feel she is to big for the role.

And then others are also pushing for the actress that played celopatra in rome.

What do you guys think? I haven't decided one way or another.

Those are all terrible choices. Most are too old.

I think they did a good job putting unknowns in most of the other roles, so why not find one here?

Pretty much any choice that comes from WiC is going to be terrible. That place is populated with idiots. Including all 3 of the contributors. They are only good for giving out actual info.
