I agree completely. In the book the way I read the character, Cersei would not only plan the Red Wedding she would demand details and evidence and dance happily in the Stark's entrails. In this series, she is just an overprotective mother that wants to keep her crown and has a small incest problem.

That is a deleted scene, that was in one of the pre-show trailers..anyone know what that scene is? I can't place it.

I would say that is from a future episode, maybe Cersei gets rough with Ned during his capture, and she sheds her "new" image.

Thought I'd read somewhere it was a flashback of Ned's brother being killed by the Mad King, and that who you're seeing is not Sean Bean.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

The scene with Renly and Loras wasn't so surprising for me in that they were lovers, but rather that they showed it rather than hinting at it like in the book. That they were so explicit with it made it a little shocking even. I suspect they wanted to add at least some wrinkles for those who have read the books.

I actually very much like Headey's portrayal of Cersei. I like how quiet she is, like someone so accustomed to power that she never has to raise her voice. And when she says something, there's always the sense that she's leaving many things unsaid, none of which are pleasant.

I think they might be referencing the fight at the Tower of Joy. That's where Ned, Howland Reed, and 5 others face the three remaining Kingsguard after the war is effectively over. Ned and Howland Reed were the only survivors of that fight.

I really don't get this. I've heard this from other sources as well. To me, it was blatantly obvious that they were gay and GRRM's references to their relationship were just about as blatant as you could get without showing a POV shaving scene. Come on now. Stannis even picks on Renly about it when they're talking about Margaery remaining a virgin and Renly/Loras spend the night together to "pray" before the battle. Best quote from SoS (Jaime to Loras):

“Now sheathe your bloody sword, or I’ll take it from you and shove it up some place even Renly never found.”

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

The added scene does set up Renly's motivations for making a claim to the throne better than the books did. I like that they're adding scenes for non-POV characters that help define them more fully, while still being 100% true to the way they were written. Surprises are good!

And I find it interesting that a lot of people (not here) have raised objections about the Loras/Renly scene while not at all mentioning the completely unnecessary added scene with Theon and the show's most prominent new character, Roz. I suppose that, if nothing else, it did help to bring the current penis:boob ratio up from around 0:50 to 1:50.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

I just finished the first book again and I do not know how they are going to fit the rest of the book in the final 5 shows. There is the rest of the Lyss/Tyrion story, a war that starts, more fun at the wall, the fall of Drago and the birth of the dragons. A lot left, hope they don't cut too many corners. What are the odds of Dany feeding the dragons as in the book.

My friend and I were talking about Theon's increased screen time the past couple of episodes and we thought it's so people are familiar with him next season when he becomes a bigger player and to emphasize the fact that he's not a Stark.

Oh, I completely agree with that. But I think they've probably done more than was necessary with Theon (especially given the limited time in a 10-episode season), and it feels like they've reiterated the same points at least 3 times now.

Not only that, but it sets up why House Tyrell would support Renly.

Confirmed or rumor?

Not who I had in mind, but I suppose it could work.

Too young, too short, not enough gravitas. I imagine the character as Anjelica Huston about 20 years ago.

Casting Break Down for Brienne Tarth:

[BRIENNE TARTH] FEMALE. Age: 20s. A skilled warrior in service to Renly Baratheon. Larger and stronger than most men, we first meet Brienne when she wins a tournament, defeating the famed Loras Tyrell. Big-boned and plain faced, she has an awkward personality, but is also honest and loyal. She is derisively known as “Brienne the Beauty”… RECURRING. (Season Two: 6 episodes/Season Appearances: Multiple Season) Must be a MINIMUM of 5’10″. Do NOT submit actresses that look like models. We are looking for a big, WARRIOR-TYPE woman that’s more MANLY than womanly.
Do you guys think she will be a 'end game' character?

Chaz Bono?

No one comes immediately to mind, but I'm glad they're trying to be faithful to the way the character is written.

Yeah. I could see them trying to stick a Lucy Lawless type in for the part. They need someone that really isn't attractive.

When reading the books I always pictured Brienne as the chick who played Marla Hooch in A League of Their own.

WHAT A HITTER!

You can make pretty girls ugly:

Sadly Weigert is too old for the part.
