I played some more...whata unique experience! To play online with a portable is amazing. It feels so wierd that there are so few people playing in the lobbies... I guess there will be more on Thursday! I remember playing socom (one) for a while last year after it hit greatest hits status and there were about a thousand people playing. I am not sure but I do not think Twisted Metal keeps your kills score after you shut the game down. I didn't even play regular mode yet, just multiplayer. Amazing. And I guess I'll be doing the same hting soon with the DS! I love my PSP! I cant wait to hear other people's reactions!

Are you a big customer for BB? I get the 10% off weekend sale coupons in the mail, but no RZ emails. I was wondering if they just send those out to their customers who spend more money than I do at Best Buy.

See, I get the occassional RZ mail (though PSP preorder was the first one I actually used), but I haven't gotten one of those 10% off weekend ones in a long time... and I'm thinking about making an HDTV purchase too. That's why I have no idea how they work.

I'm not a huge BB customer, and I tend to pricematch a lot to get cheaper prices and RZ points (which I would think makes me a "devil" customer). Though I guess with the anime clearances they've been having lately, I have been shopping there a bit more.

edit:
Ironically, just got an email from Amazon for another PSP preorder. Except you have to buy 5(!) games for 450. Geez. I will NEVER buy a system from Amazon again after they messed up my girlfriend's order when she was trying to get me a PS2 at launch. They had no problem shipping the games, though, and I went to Bestbuy every morning until I got one just so she wouldn't feel so bad...

I think I've found a way to get a PSP without feeling guilty about spending lots of money. I'm going to go via one of those "get a PSP for free by harrassing your friends and family to sign up for crap they'll never actually use" websites. It's run by the same company that did the original "free iPod" site. And don't worry, I'm not going to post a referral link here or anything. I've already found another forum dedicated to "trading" offers at the freebie sites. Just figured I'd mention it here in case anyone else in the same boat as me - you really want a PSP but can't justify spending $250 on it.

I talked to my local Best Buy - they have 256 PSP's for sale on Thursday. I just want to get to the games, maybe they'll let me not have to stand in line!

Yeah, I'm not worried that there will be 250 people standing outside early in the morning, but I am worried about the lines... when there are just 10 people the lines are atrocious.

I guess with these kinds of quantities, we won't get people waiting overnight for the stores to open...

For now, that's the only way you can buy the PSP.

From Gamespot.com
"The Sony PSP will be available in a $249 Value Pack when it hits store shelves next week. The Value Pack will include the PSP, battery pack, charger, carrying case, wrist strap, headphones with wired remote, 32MB Memory Stick Duo, cleaning cloth, and a UMD sampler disc, which contains movie clips, music videos, and sample game footage. You won't be able to buy the PSP without the bundled accessories at launch, but we wouldn't be surprised if Sony released a basic pack at a future date."

I don't know if its a nationwide thing, but the Best Buy here advertised as opening at 8 AM. Hopefully it won't be too bad trying to get my hands on one.

UMD reviews??

Does anyone know if DVD talk will review the umd movies like they do DVD's? Don't flame me, I know alot hate what $ony is doing with this new media. Am i the only one interested in the UMD movie feature? If the staff here is going to review films when will they? I know that Boogyman will be the first UMD that will have extra's like the DVD version will.

Are the UMD movies going to be different in content, though? I haven't heard of any UMD-only extras, and if there aren't any, the only difference would be the quality of video (I'm pretty sure the sound is only stereo, right?)

And Best buy is opening everywhere at 8:01 am (why not 8?). So if I go by there before work and there's a 100+ long line outside, I'm turning around.

As a followup to the Electronic Boutique "trade in 3 games get 1 PSP game free" deal, they have another deal on one of their in-store flyers. It says buy any 2 of the same 8 PSP games offered in the trade-in deal and you can mail in the form and your receipts for a $10 EB voucher. The small print specifically mentions that you CAN use this with the trade-in deal. Not huge, but if you were gonna do (or already did) the first deal anyway, might as well get another $10 towards a future game.

I traded 6 games for Wipeout and Twisted Metal.

Edit to add link to mail in form

Just saw the review for Metal Gear: Ac!d on IGN, and all I can say is yikes! I never really looked into the game; I just assumed it would be similar to Metal Gear Solid from PS1 and/or 2. But IGN's review calls it sloppy and sluggish, and since it's a "card" game, I'm willing to bet their assessment isn't too far off. I'm certainly staying away from this one.

I don't know if this has been mentioned or not.. but Movie Gallery's buy 2-get 2 free promotion also applies to games. So you could load up on some $7.99 games and go trade them in at EBGames for PSP titles as part of their promotion. Basically getting any (or all) of those 8 PSP games for 16 bucks a pop, versus 40 bucks. Good for people like me who didn't really have any games laying around to trade in..

As somone posted earlier UMD movies are like $12 at amazon.com if you are so inclined.
Even though I cancelled my pre-order I may go to best buy on thursday morning to get the unit and a game. The $450 bundle price was just too damn high.

EB Games called me today to tell that they will have my PSP waiting at 7.00am Thursday morning. I picked up 4 games today. NBA, Metal Gear Acid, Twisted Metal and Darkstalkers Chronicle. I have Ape Escape and World Tour Soccer also being delivered from online.
Can't wait till Thursday

I pre-ordered mine today from Block Buster, I get to pick it up Wednesday at midnight.

I have a couple games and I know at least DarkStalkers you can connect to your wireless network with.
What I was wondering is since I use a MAC Address filter on my wireless router to keep neighbors out, will I be able to find out the MAC Address of my PSP so I can set my router configuration to allow it?

I haven't looked through the whole thread so maybe someone else has asked already, but does anyone know if the UMD movies are going to be OAR? The screen is 1.78:1 so 1.85:1 movies will be close enough, but I'm wondering about the 2.35:1 movies. They show those modified on HDTV, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them do it for the PSP. Or will there be separate fullscreen and widescreen versions?

Also, for those who have it, how is the square button? Supposedly since it's so close to the screen it isn't as responsive as the others. Does it work okay?

If the psp doesn't have it on it, you should be able to see in the router menu which devices are trying to connect and get the address that way. I think my netgear displays it under attached devices and I believe the logs.
