Or will there be separate fullscreen and widescreen versions?
Also, for those who have it, how is the square button? Supposedly since it's so close to the screen it isn't as responsive as the others. Does it work okay?

And I believe the square button has been fixed for the US release.

[venting]Man I hate Best Buy!
I hopped on their "Special Offer" for Reward Zone members only to pre-order the PSP.
I just called to cancel my order, as they still can't provide me with an estimated ship date for my PSP.
Now they tell me I can't cancel my order because it is "In Process."
I even paid more for 2nd Day shipping.
So, I've paid extra to get the system at some later "To Be Determined" date.
Thanks for the excellent "Special Offer" Best Buy![/venting]

"We anticipate inventory
from our vendor by the release date and plan to begin shipping orders on or
about March 24. "
Plus it seems like the local BBs will get tons.
Of course, they've already got the systems in, I don't see why they can't ship them out today (that way, the overnight shipping people at least get there's on launch, and us two-nighters can get ours on Friday). I think EBGames and other plan the overnight shipments to arrive on launch, instead of waiting for the launch day to ship.
Ah well, I'm still going to BB tomorrow morning. If there are hundreds of people there, I'll keep on driving and wait for my preordered one. If there's not that long of a line, I'll buy one and find someone else in my family to sell the other one to. (for anyone thinking of buying and returning the one that comes in the mail, remember that they usually scan the barcode on the system when selling systems) And the rewardzone points do add up...

Just wondering what people think about buying an extended warranty on this. I have one on preorder from Blockbuster which I plan on picking up tonight but part of me is concerned about buying it from a place without an extended warranty. Just wondering if this thing is going to break quickly. I know there was some issues with the Japan launch but they are supposively fixed with the US launch. Are most of you getting extended warranties or just sticking with the manufactor warranty?

You can still pre-order and you're guaranteed to get on on 3/24.
I'm still on the fence but if I do decide to get one, I certainly won't get up early or go out of my way.

For anyone who has played one of these, can you comment on how bad the screen glare is? I've read people saying that you can't even play it outside, because the screen glare is so bad. Is that true, or are they just haters?

honestly, if you're out in the sun, its pretty bad.
If you're in the shade, or in somewhere with lights, its perfectly fine.
I just bought some "Face Armor" for the PSP yesterday
Its the thing sticking up from the PSP, you can tilt it over so where it makes a "shade" for the PSP which helps a lot outdoors. It was about $10 and comes with some game cases as well.

Nevermind about the shipping from bestbuy.com. Although I haven't got an email confirmation yet, I checked the order status on the website and it said:
"1 item(s) shipped via SECOND DAY on 03/23/05"
so I guess I get mine on Friday. Can't blame them, if everyone got their's tomorrow, what's the incentive to spring for overnight shipping?
About the extended warranty... I think CompUSA is offering an extended warranty, even if you didn't buy the system from them. I think Sony already offers a one year warranty, which should be sufficient for most people. Otherwise, people can try to abuse the bestbuy or ebgames ones, but I'm not sure how much they've tightened them up.

I got my PSP yesterday 03/22/2005, two days before the street date. Yesterday, I called the store I pre-ordered it from just to find out when (03/24 or 03/25) can I pick it up. The manager said that they got the shipment on monday and I can pick it up anytime. So after work, I drove to the store and the store clerk told to me that the manager made a mistake. However, they gave it to me and told me not to tell anybody because they can't sell it before the street date. The sad part is that the PSP games I pre-ordered didn't came in yet and had to go back on tomorrow to get those :-( . The good thing is that I already charged tha unit and make it ready for tomorrow. :-)
The LCD is very bright and very very nice to look at (like my Sony Vaio laptop's screen). My wife was so impressed that she want one especially when she found out that I can play movies and mp3 with this thing. My wife really like the Gameboy systems because she love to play those Mario game. When she told me that she is very impressed with the PSP, I think I better get her one, too. ;-) The Spider-man 2 movie showcases this awesome LCD screen.
I am kinda disappointed with the sampler disc it came with. You can't play the demo games! The movie previews, as well as the music samples (with video), are an okay additions. But i would have preferred to be able to play demo of the games instead even if just for a few of them.
The soft case is okay but I will definitely buy a better carrying case for this toy. It also came with a soft cloth to clean the screen and the unit. I would have like it more if it came with at least one screen protector.
Great to have the hand strap. I wish my other portable gaming devices (Gameboys) have that, too.
The battery came with some charge. The manual said that it will take 2 hours 30 minutes to fully charge it from empty charge. I checked the unit after an hour of charging and it was already fully charged.

I got 2nd Day UPS, and there's a tracking link in my Order Status page.

Yes -there's a tracking number, but it's not in the UPS system yet. I wonder if I'm close enough to where-ever they're shipping from to have it arrive in 2 days anyway. I wasn't really expecting to see it before early next week anyway. I'll see what UPS says later tonight, once it's in their system.

Basically getting any (or all) of those 8 PSP games for 16 bucks a pop, versus 40 bucks. Good for people like me who didn't really have any games laying around to trade in..
Be careful that the cheap games aren't on the exclusions list and make sure it includes the instructions and cover art or EB Games won't take it as part of their promotion.

My biggest problem is, I'm impatient.
I spend the $25 for express shipping on just about every single thing I order (be it one game or 5). My PSP Case was $7. With shipping it came to about $25
But hey, they give me something to do at work, and I can afford it, so I'm not upset at all.

fujishig - did you specify 2 day shipping when you ordered? I was under the impression that you were surprised when it was shipped that way. I chose standard shipping, though I'm not sure why, now.
