Weirdness. Its just supposed to be in the non "%" folders right?

Edit: Got NeoGeo to work... looks like the file extentions were wrong.

psphacker.com has some great guides. I couldn't make heads or tales of this a few weeks ago. Now I have hundreds of great games on my psp. In my experiece the Gameboy Color, NES, Genesis, SMS, and Turbo Graphix all work perfectly. SNES and GBA are pretty bad.

Well, I got rid of everything except for NES for right now. Still can't figure out why the SMS/GG wouldn't work, but I'm happy with NES for now.

The PSP is definitely never getting rest.

So far I've tried:

NES - Worked fine.
Gameboy/Gameboy Color - Worked fine.
Genesis - Ran slow, but otherwise worked fine. I had to unzip the rom files to get them to show up, however.
Sega Master System - Ran, but I can't get it to see the rom files. I tried them both zipped and unzipped, neither worked.

Guys could we steer this thread away from the emulator talk a little? The PSP is a cool machine but emulator talk is a sticky wicket and I don't want to see this thread dominated by it.

Thanks

Just picked up my PSP. I've got 3 stuck pixels (very faint, but visible if the screen is black), but I'm not going to bother returning it. I'm amazed at the video quality of the LCD on this thing!

Does anyone know what the infrared port is for? Also, are any of the movie rental chains (Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, etc.) renting the PSP games yet?

Blockbuster is renting PSP games, or at least some of them are. I picked up MLB the other day but only because I had a $5 gift card. $7.40 is a bit too much for me to rent games on a regular basis. No UMD movies though, which is what I was hoping for.

And that 'no late fees' thing is still a pain in the ass. I think the employees are tired of it too. The guy tells me, "this will be due back on Thursday" to which I replied, "I know you get sick of this, but I guess it's OK if I return it on Friday or Saturday?" I told him the whole 'no late fees' thing is confusing and he agreed completely after telling me I'd be find to return it a couple of days late. What Blockbuster wants to say: "This is due on Thursday, but if you need a couple of days extra, don't worry about it." What customers want to know: "When do I need to have this back before you charge me?"

Why don't the MAMEbowl threads get any crap for talking about roms/emulators?

Because they are simply discussing the games themselves, not the inner workings of how to get MAME going as least from what I've seen. If you guys want to discuss the ROMs you are using on your PSP, you are more than welcome to, and that would simply be another thread.

Anyway, reread what I said, we can let a little emulator talk slip thru, tidbits here & there, but if the entire PSP thread becomes a thread on emulation using the PSP (which is what seems to be happening), that's not what we want to see.

I know, it needs a touch pad so you can play a game where you get to tickle Kirby's balls... I mean ball with a stylus.

Oh really? Here's the second and third sentence from the MAMEbowl thread:

Download MAME to play the games.
New to MAME? Feel free to ask questions here or read the tutorials

Well to be fair, there is only one thread for PSP. Any talk relating to emulating a PSP is coming right here. It has no where else to go.

Okay, now I'm a little confused. Does this mean we should start a separate thread on PSP emulation, or just on ROMs we are using in PSP?

I guess I was always under the assumption that the ROMs themselves were the "bad" part of emulation, but the emulation programs themselves were okay. Just basing this on the number of sites that freely distribute emulators but have strict rules prohibiting distribution of actual ROM files. I'm not trying to argue, just trying to understand.

On another note, at what point should we abandon the 'One-and-only' thread? This sucker is already at over 1500 posts. I understand the need when people are just posting news and gossip about a system, or about initial impressions. But at some point, once a system is released and starts taking off it doesn't make as much sense to confine all of the system's issues into one thread.

Fair enough about the MAME thread, I'll ask them to remove those links. If you had reported that before something would have been done.

I hope you realize I'm trying to be lenient here. How about we just kill emulator talk altogether? That's a lot easier than trying to be nice and letting tidbits slip through. If that's the route you think we should take, then I have no problem with it, please let me know.

I'm glad to see UMD sales doing so well, but I really wish Sony would package a basic DVD with the UMD version they sell, that way I can watch the movie on my PSP or home theater. There's no way I'm going to pay double to own two different versions of a movie, but I hate the fact that if I do buy a UMD I'm stuck watching it only on the PSP.

There is no way Sony would ever do that. Optical media is big business for Sony, much to their sorrow DVD sales are begining to stall out as people have bought most of the old movies they wanted on DVD and are only buying some new releases.

The UMD format (and the PSP for that matter) are in the market for more reasons to simply compete as a video game machine. The PSP is Sony's vessel for trying to establish a new optical media they can sell things on. This year Sony will make more money in simply pressing discs for movies and games then they will actually selling movies. (They press movies for all kinds of clients, including Wal-Mart which custom orders DVDs, etc.)

I'm not that happy they are doing so well. It just show they can charge these outrageous prices, and people will buy them. You get less for more (when compared to a DVD). I'm sure over time they will come down in price, but I cannot justify spending more than $7-$10 for a UMD movie.

Coded Arms is getting horrible reviews so at least you won't have to worry about being forced to update your firmware to play that garbage.

From the EGM review "Maybe if it had better controls, maybe if you hadn't played a FPS since 1995. No, Coded Arms would still suck.

Midnight Club is getting good reviews, however, the load times are said to be the worst of any PSP game yet. So if you can deal with long load times that looks to be a winner.

Copied from Gamespot:

Bandai to release first UMD-DVD bundle

Company's first anime release will sell in Japan on both PSP-compatible media and DVD in one package.

TOKYO--Bandai announced today that it will be the first company to release a product in a bundle that includes both the DVD and UMD editions. On July 22, the publisher will release the first volume of Koukyoushihen Eureka Seven, an anime series currently airing on Japanese TV. The bundle will let owners watch the program on both their home DVD systems and on their PSPs via Sony's proprietary Universal Media Disc format.

There is an update on Midnight Club 3 also, but like the one on Coded Arms it is only v1.50, which is already on all of the US models (unless you wi-fi upgraded to 1.51, or 1.52).

I tried MC3 last night at work it takes a long time to get into a race but the graphics, and gameplay were good once it finally loaded. I won't buy it unless I can find it on sale/used for $30 or lower, as the $50 price point is too rich for my taste.

Are there any other programs besides PSPVideo9 that convert DVD to PSP? PSPVideo9 will not run on my PC anymore....I get an error everytime I run it. I think my only solution is to reformat my HD and I don't want to do that since it is TOO time consuming.

What's the cost? My point is Sony will not include a DVD and PSP movie at significant savings. There may be a minimal advantage in packaging costs, but as I said Sony makes their money on pressing the movies, they arn't going to start giving them away for free. The only exception I can think of if DVD sales really drop and it becomes advatagous for Sony simply to keep the lines moving.
