I understand his point. It's funny to even me that this is the latest game to get people excited. If more good games were out, or were coming out soon, this would not be the case. I'm sure plenty of people would be curious about it, but not on this level. Many are excited just because it's a "new" game for the PSP.
It's not a cheapshot, just a funny situation.
And yes I'm sure that you can run it on 1.50 by the way. The game comes with 1.52 on the UMD, so maybe that is how your friend got updated. Surely he had to do something for that to take place.

No, I wasn't taking a cheapshot at the PSP....I love my PSP, I just wish there were more games for it. I've played most of them now, and a lot seem a just average...but still have a WOW factor.
I just find it funny that a classics collection is an anticipated release (while on XBOX or PS2 it seems to be passed over....a little bit at elast)

My opinion of the PSP is still unchanged. Still blown away by the hardware and all the things the PSP can do, but still patiently waiting for the software to make this worth $250 as a gaming system. I just don't know what to expect anymore. Coded Arms and Death Jr. were the two big titles of the summer and they both fell way short of expectations. GTA looks to be a sure thing though.
Anyway, good system with excellent potential. Its just taking longer than I thought for Sony to get the software lineup up to speed.

Why would you need something else? If it's runs on 1.50...then it should just work. Unless people are using Loaders and other pirate software. We are not talking about things working ILLEGALLY here.

Just wanted to weigh in with my opinions on the PSP, its library, "goodies" (as Pixy put it), and the firmware update.
I bought my PSP at launch, and bought Lumines, Tony Hawk, and Wipeout Pure to start off with. Lumines and Tony Hawk were/are a lot of fun, and Wipeout was kinda fun, but I just couldn't get into it that much. I might even sell Wipeout - I just don't have much of a desire to play it. I later got Metal Gear Acid as a gift, which I thought was much better than the reviews made it out to be. Since then, though, there hasn't been a single game released that has caught my interest, and the only two games on the horizon that look good to me are Burnout and GTA. Compare that to the DS, where I could name 7 or 8 games coming out this year that I would like to own. To each their own, but I think the DS has much more to offer in terms of unique and interesting games. There may be tons of PSP games on the way, but I couldn't care less about 90% of them.
Which brings us to the "goodies". Once this feature came to 1.5 firmware, I started playing my PSP a whole lot more than I had been. If I had to pick between emulation and the regular PSP games, I would quickly give up the PSP games. Having a sleek portable system which can play very accurate emulated versions of NES, SNES, Genesis, and classic arcade games is much more interesting to me than the existing PSP library. And this is why the 2.0 firmware update is meaningless to me. The only new feature in 2.0 that seems at all noteworthy is the browser, and most of the time that I play the PSP, I'm either near a computer (at home or at work) or nowhere near a hotspot (during a long-distance drive or on the train). I'm certainly not going to give up emulation for that. I'm really not sure why people are so hyped up about the 2.0 update, to be honest.
So, in a nutshell, the PSP is a system with tons of potential, but so far this potential has gone largely unused. I'm hoping that 2006 will see the release of higher quality and more unique games, because this year is looking pretty slim to me.

I don't want no loaders.
*EDIT*
Nevermind, found it. It appears you can download a program to trick your PSP to thinking it runs at 1.52, so you can play new games without having to upgrade.
I think ALL new games will probably require 1.52 or higher. I'm sure eventually I'll upgrade.

i love my psp, but i agree the ds has some cool games coming out, i am gonna have to pick one up pretty soon. The problem it seems with the PSP. Is that there arent many orginal games coming out for it. most seem to be just ports of recent ps2 games. Theres more movies out for the psp then games.

Now where are my RPGs, for either system? I'm also wondering how Madden PSP is going to be...

I just hope that the program allows me to play GTA: LCS and Virtua Tennis without any problems.
I also wonder how Madden will look and play on the PSP. I'm also wondering about the PSP version of SD vs. RAW.

The games are pretty slow right now and some good 3rd party software could boost sales.
The 2.0 update is neat.

Well, picked up the PSP pack from Costco (B-day gift from Mom : woo-hoo!). It comes with Hot Shots Golf which seems very close to the PS2 versions and ATV which I haven't tried yet. Just about to upgrade to 2.0 (unless there's some reason not to ).
Eager to check it out some more, but will chill on the game purchases for now (at least until GTA).
