IMHO, there is a point where some fans start to claim some sort of ownership over the thing they are fans of, and use their longterm fandom as justification for tearing something to shreds. And often, when it is pointed out that the original thing they are fans of is equally flawed, they fly off the handle even more.
* No matter how wrong "they" are, of course.

ETA: I realize the hypocrisy of the above, considering my sig. I'm too lazy to change it. But I am no longer on the train, and am happy for those who are enthusiastic about the upcoming movie.

A civilization that has people who can move things with their minds, fly across the galaxy with speed and ease, and has made (with some regularity) moon sized devices that can destroy planets- has apparently only just now discovered jet packs.
And this blows the minds of our heroes.
M'kay.

M'kay.
But yes, I agree it's weird having all three of them be amazed that stormtroopers are using jet packs. And it makes the threat seem not so threatening and just silly and cheesy.
Not trying to pick on you personally, but I really hate this mentality that some people seem to have. Not just for Star Wars but fandoms of a multitude of things. You can be a fan of something and also be critical. In fact, and I know I’ve said this before I actually think it takes a good fan to be able to criticize something rather than blindly loving everything.
TLJ is arguably the third best Star Wars film, better than Return of the Jedi, Attack of the Clones, Phantom Menace, Revenge of the Sith, and The Force Awakens. How it has the lowest audience rating score at Rotten Tomatoes, I have no idea. Okay I do, but still.

But what we have here are fans blindly hating something.

Back on topic, I'm not watching any more TROS clips or trailers. I've seen plenty to get me excited and I've got my tickets for opening weekend. Cannot wait

The TV spots (and the just released International Trailer) are really ramping up with new footage in the past few days (most of it looks pretty cool). The irony of The Rise of Skywalker is that I have enjoyed all of the footage regarding Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo (the new characters), and the only thing that scares me is the return of Palpatine. It's almost like I may end up liking 90% of the movie until the ending when they probably meet up with Palpatine and his plan is revealed. I just don't buy his return and can't think of any plausible reason how they can bring him back without us rolling our eyes and diminishing the ending of Return of the Jedi. Of course we will all wait and see as it's all speculation now, but I think Palpatine was a good marketing ploy but may end up hurting the film in the end.

Can someone explain the marketing strategy on this movie? The TV spots are great as each one is filled with something new each day yet that Trailer was ‘meh’ back in October.

The most recent one was just okay if you ask me. Looked like a lot of stuff just recut from the trailer.
