Not to derail, just offer an observation: I was thinking today about how many different Christian faith traditions interpret Jesus and have the same sort of thing going on. The big difference is in fandom people act like jerks about their opinions* and are easy to ignore or just disagree, but with some faith traditions their interpretation leads to legitimate harm of others. "Fan" is from "fanatic," of course.

* No matter how wrong "they" are, of course.

The other side of that coin is fans taking deep offense when another tears that thing to shreds. They are all just opinions, and in a true and just world, those who ride the train should have the fortitude to be content in their happiness, and those not on the train should be able to express their feelings without using ridicule.

ETA: I realize the hypocrisy of the above, considering my sig. I'm too lazy to change it. But I am no longer on the train, and am happy for those who are enthusiastic about the upcoming movie.

M'kay.
I see what they were going for, from a meta-level/modern humor level. Everything in the PT was melodramatic, cheesy seriousness, so "yo mama" jokes and stuff like this is an attempt to feel more contemporary which is inline with the OT.
But yes, I agree it's weird having all three of them be amazed that stormtroopers are using jet packs. And it makes the threat seem not so threatening and just silly and cheesy.

But what we have here are fans blindly hating something.
TLJ is arguably the third best Star Wars film, better than Return of the Jedi, Attack of the Clones, Phantom Menace, Revenge of the Sith, and The Force Awakens. How it has the lowest audience rating score at Rotten Tomatoes, I have no idea. Okay I do, but still.

These same "fans" acted the same way with the prequels. They had Ahmed Best who played Jar Jar Binks contemplating suicide, and years later harassed Kelly Marie Tran and ran her off of the internet. They're kids movies people!

Arguably is the point, so it sort of makes your whole argument irrelevant. I don't think TLJ is the 3rd best SW film, nor does anyone I know think that too. My opinion and my friend's opinions are just as irrelevant as yours, so it is sort of a waste to argue Rotten Tomatoes scores or IMDB scores, etc.

Stop being so dramatic, as you know there are idiots out there in every walk of life who do this (and they are a minority). It's no different then sports fans who act like idiots at Football Games, and harrass an athlete. I don't condone any of those posts towards Kelly Marie Tran, but you have to admit that is 1% of the fanbase that is trolling her. And I do feel bad for Ahmed Best for what he went through with Jar Jar, but the Godfather 3 fans did the same thing to Sophia Coppola as she was considered one of the worst actresses and was a punchline until she started directing and was successful. You don't think the Wackowski's got alot of hate after the Matrix Sequels and people disdain Reloaded and Revolutions. How about George Clooney and Batman & Robin as that movie killed the franchise for 10 years. It makes me laugh that only SW fans are the evil ones as this sadly happens in all walks of life. It's a minority of trolls who ruin it for everyone. but please don't lump us in with them because we were critical of TLJ.

It isn’t blind hatred though. I’ve given reasons for why I feel the way I do and others have as well. If you disagree that’s fine, but that doesn’t make my opinion less valid. You even acknowledge it’s arguably better so you know that not everyone likes it.

Well of course it's all arguable. Art is subjective. But on this site it's been said that true Star Wars fans don't like TLJ. Which is fucking ridiculous.

Back on topic, I'm not watching any more TROS clips or trailers. I've seen plenty to get me excited and I've got my tickets for opening weekend. Cannot wait

I haven’t said that to be clear. I’ve said more than once if people like it then that’s fine and I just disagree. I know personally there’s been a lot of shade thrown my way for giving reasons for not liking The Last Jedi as well so it isn’t a one-sided thing.

Agreed actually. That short tv spot did more for me than the final trailer released a while ago.

Yeah, it’s one of the more memorable themes in the saga as a whole.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (12/20/19, W/D: J.J. Abrams)

The TV spots (and the just released International Trailer) are really ramping up with new footage in the past few days (most of it looks pretty cool). The irony of The Rise of Skywalker is that I have enjoyed all of the footage regarding Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo (the new characters), and the only thing that scares me is the return of Palpatine. It's almost like I may end up liking 90% of the movie until the ending when they probably meet up with Palpatine and his plan is revealed. I just don't buy his return and can't think of any plausible reason how they can bring him back without us rolling our eyes and diminishing the ending of Return of the Jedi. Of course we will all wait and see as it's all speculation now, but I think Palpatine was a good marketing ploy but may end up hurting the film in the end.

Yeah. I feel like Palpatine returning will work if it’s not in a literal presence. Either through some kind of visions or something where he’s not actually there but can still be seen or flashbacks.

Can someone explain the marketing strategy on this movie? The TV spots are great as each one is filled with something new each day yet that Trailer was ‘meh’ back in October.

The most recent one was just okay if you ask me. Looked like a lot of stuff just recut from the trailer.
