I'm glad to see that everyone is getting the same joy I got when I first got my PSP 3 months ago. The dead pixel issue is expected with LCD screens, but I am sure Sony will do repairs once they have excess supply.
As for everyone who is talking about sales being disappointed, you must put this is perspective. When the Slim PS2 came out, my local EB only got 15 consoles. They were sold out immediately. My local EB got 50 PSPs and they had preorders for 68. For those of you keeping track, they had 3 times the supply of PSPs than Slim PS2s. That is an amazing number when you think about it.
The fact that they are selling out games should be clue enough that they are selling well. I don't think Sony would have suspected that Lumines would be a platform selling game, but it definitely is. Ridge Racers is still beautiful - but nothing can compare to WipeOut Pure for quality.
Sony delivered enough machines to satisfy demand (in some areas) and provided a strong lineup of launch titles. This is definitely a sucessful launch.
If you will excuse me, I just flahed my PSP to version 1.50, and I need to get back to WipeOut

So, this is certainly selling some places, and not selling as fast others. I am actually surprised about sales here. That doesn't mean it won't pick up though. There could be students who didn't realize it was coming, being gone for Spring Break last week and all.

On another train of thought ... since I haven't followed PSP news as diligently as I usually do for systems, what are the chances we'll see future models (i.e. built-in hard drive to compete with iPod more, other changed aspects)? Have there been rumors of anything yet?

People have definitely been mad in the past on launch days because systems are hard to get, I give Sony some credit for shipping plenty to market at launch. However, if something is easy to get we seem to think it has less value. Don't know, guess its a catch 22.
Seems like everyone is enjoying them and I still predict by Christmas these things will be flying off the shelves. I may get one at some point, but I honestly have no need for one. I'm just more of a PDA person as far as carrying around a gadget goes. I may get one in a few months though when a few must have games come out.

I picked up my PSP at 8 am today, along with Wipeout Pure, Ridge Racer and Twisted Metal. The system is perfect, no dead pixels. I bought the games at Best Buy so i got a $20 gift card that i'll use to buy another game. I haven't decided what my 4th game will be, probably Untold Legends or Metal Gear Acid. The analog nub felt a little strange at first, but it works great with Wipeout and Ridge Racer (while both games are great, i like Wipeout more).
I've only played Twisted Metal a little, i tested it online (only took a few minutes to set it up) and it was very smooth. I'm very happy with the system, the games are really good and the screen is amazing. The system is also smaller than you would think, only a little wider than the original GBA, but the screen is huge, taking up most of the space on the front.

well, at my store today we experienced a lot of the dead pixel issue. mine now has 2...only had 1 about an hour ago...woot. I'd say at least 25-35% have a problem, if not more. Luckily only 7-8 complained returned them, out of about 60...still horrible average. I'll be swapping mine in a few months in hopes that they fix it.

I got mine this afternoon and played it til the battery was completely drained. I tranferred some attrac3plus songs into the 32meg memory stick and got about 10 songs onto it. I am very impressive w/the attrac3plus format since I never played with it before. I managed to compress an 8 meg mp3 song down to 2 megs w/attrac3plus. I used SonicStage to convert my mp3 music w/the 48kb compression and the sound quality works for me.
The screen shots of the video images online doesn't do it justice til you see it for yourself. Watching the UMD demo and Spidey 2 is an awesome display of the screen. Also, after many bad readings about the headphone and remote -- it turned out to be better than I thought. I prefer to used the headphones instead of the speakers.
However, I'm curious, if anyone is having any issues similair to mine:
There is a hissing noise from the UMD drive when I advance to the next chapter (by using the R shoulder button) or when I was at the demo UMD advancing to the next screen from the music videos and movies trailers. I called Gamerush and no one else have had this issue that. I have to call them back tomorrow to see how this situation will be handle. Besides that minor issue and I'll be expecting them to replace it for me since I have had it less then 24hrs. This is by far the best gadget I haven't bought. I've purchased the GBA SP and didn't have much use for it after a few wks. I'm glad I waited for this.

Can this thing play any .MP4 files?
I followed the directions in the link above, creating the two directories off the root etc. etc.
I cannot create .MP4 files on my computer because I don't have the power user access to install Apple Quicktime (which is needed to use the 3GP converter apparently).
So, I copied some .MP4 files I found on some cell phone site, renamed them using the proper pattern, and copied them into the 100MNV01 directory off of MP_ROOT. PSP still won't detect them when I choose the "videos" option.
What is the deal?

That site doesn't come up on my browser.
I don't know if it is a bandwith issue for them, or a browser lock for me (on the work computer). Probably the latter.
I'll have to get temp access tomorrow and install Quicktime on this laptop.

Count me as a proud PSP owner, picked mine up at Wal-mart on the way home (left a little early ) I pick up Lumens and Ridge Racer. The only accessory I picked up was a Pelican car charger so I could power it up in the parking lot, no dead pixels thankfully!
Lumens is tough for me I havent really enjoyed playing it that much. I really liked tetris (still do actually) I like Bejeweled on my PDA but Im having trouble getting it with Lumens? Anyways the graphics and sound are awesome just not doing so good with the game play on that one.
Ridge Racer is AMAZING I would have never believed they could pack so much power into a little handheld. This is light years better than my last handheld (gameboy advance).
I used Sony's Connect.com to download 6 atrac music files to the player. I had got these for free during the last McD's monopoly games. They are awesome and 3 of them even include album art on the PSP. I really want a larger memory stick but I am holding out for a 1GB, could find anything but 256MB locally and nobody online seems to have them in stock. Hopefully production/shipments of the larger duo cards will pick up in the near future.
Anyways I plan on buying Tiger Woods today on my way home to play over the weekend.

Wow, is this nto selling as well as thought? I thought all stores were supposed to be sold out. I was at my Target yesterday and they probably had like 20 systems and a bunch of games too. I did not get one since I find handhelds almost pointless....but I was intrigued by the PSP.
