Re: What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!
I get that you always minimize stuff and think the internet are a bunch of drama queens, but how in the actual fuck can the two biggest franchises coming to next gen consoles at drastically different resolutions not be a big deal??? Honestly, it boggles the mind, especially coming from a movie buff.
Did you read the article?
This is a problem, and it isn't temporary.

Problems aren't scandalous. Big deals aren't scandals. Is the $100 price difference a scandal? FRANKLIN-GATE.
It's a stupid, lazy, overused fucking term. "Slap -GATE on our story! Get everyone riled up! Rabble rabble!"
That's all I meant when I said it. Of course the difference in resolutions is notable.

I also usually cringe at the use of "gate", particularly in politics, where they conveniently always forget that Watergate was an actual criminal act, and usually the thing they are comparing to it isn't even close.
I hate when I agree with you.

At launch, this kind of disparity is pretty disappointing, but not a deal-breaker for me.
If this continues beyond AAA titles released after March/April, I'll be buying cross-platform releases on the PS4. I'll keep both systems for their respective exclusives, though. Nothing on the schedule is more exciting to me than Titanfall right now, though. That game could run at 540p on the XO, and I'll still buy it on day one. I have no self control.

I think I might buy a PS4 down the line somewhere but I am just not interested in Playstation anymore. Even the first party titles of the PS3 (outside of The Last of Us, and I never finished it anyway) never really drew me to them. I skipped God of War, Uncharted, Killzone, Ratchet and Clank, and all the rest of them.
With Xbox One playing Blu-Ray's now, I don't see the need for a PS4 at all.

Uncharted 2 was one of the best games of this generation, but then I feel the same about Gears of War 2 (yeah I'll be odd man out, that's my favorite)
Outside of that, the exclusives weren't all that impressive on either system.

Videogamer.com on 720p:

And their self-identified Xbox fanboy meltdown:
Pixelated: Xbox One's 720p problem is the biggest deal-breaker yet

Well of course, everybody knows the higher your gaming consoles resolution the bigger your penis is.

New generations have always been about bigger, better, prettier. Otherwise, what's the point? All of a sudden the 'reigning champ,' for lack of a better term, is bringing in a less powerful machine that may(or may not) provide the weakest ports and they get a pass. We spent a generation shitting on Nintendo for Nintendo's lack of horsepower and lack of HD with the Wii and the same for the WiiU. MS does it and it's all sunshine and roses & "who needs 1080p anyway?"
This isn't meant to start some retarded flame war. Honest question. Why does MS deserve a pass?

Maybe because their console does bring horsepower and HD? There's nothing wrong with the console, as it can clearly do 1080p/60fps. It's the dev's who failed to produce a product, not MS. Maybe they didnt have enough time with the kits? Maybe they started on the PC/PS4 versions first? who knows.

Why is Killer Instinct getting hype? It hasn't been a worthwhile fighting series in nearly 20 years and the new one doesn't look to be changing that.
But as with all fighting games, it does come down to the gameplay, which I can safely say I haven't played.
I was stoked about the graphics for next gen, then I played BF4 on PC for a bit. The game is beautiful, but it's still essentially the same gameplay from '96. New levels, new strategies, and that's cool and all but I miss actual gameplay being fun. The gameplay in these games is a tool to experience a world, but unless it's a really unique world (Neverhood) or has a really strong plot (adventure games, older RPGs), I find myself simply wanting better gameplay more than anything. Hopefully it shows up this gen.

It couldn't possibly be the weak GPU, the slow RAM or the esRAM bottleneck. It has to be the developers. All of them.
Flawless victory.
Rhetorical question: Why do we have an Xbox One thread where 720p has barely come up other than the thread title?

Re: What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!
chess posting that sort of thing in the Xbox One thread would qualify as a threadcrap, but a poll like this seems like it ought to have some level of debate. As long as it's not presented in a really insulting or offensive way, I think it's appropriate. (...and the same goes for anyone who wants to highlight the PS4's shortcomings, even if that person isn't interested in the console at all.)

There's a difference between ribbing and trolling, and for my money, he's on the ribbing side (just speaking about the here and now, not the past). Groucho or namja would be the ones to make the final call about that, though.

Note that we had several pages of honest criticism over MP3s (of all things) in the PS4 thread with no hostility whatsoever.

Re: What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!
The news itself would be fair game for posting. The idea is that if someone has very vocally made it clear that he's interested in one console and has a habit of being hostile towards the other, he shouldn't be the one posting bad news in the 'enemy' thread (or really posting anything at all there). This forum can be pretty volatile, and that's just throwing a match into a powderkeg. It does cut both ways between the PS4 and Xbox One too. I wish things weren't that way, but several of us think that makes the most sense with the way things are.
I do agree that the PS4 thread seems to be much more open to criticism than the Xbox One thread, though.

Under the rules that are being rewritten in the secret Mods hollowed-out volcano, yeah.

I would like to think that once these boxes are out in the wild people will be a little bit less defensive and hostile.
I do agree that the PS4 thread seems to embrace criticism more than the Xbox One thread, though.
