The reference is lost on me. I have no idea who Ralph Bellamy is. I googled him, and I see he was an actor in old movies, but I don't see the connection to Cyclops/Aquaman.

Although I'm a longtime comic book reader, I'm not sure I was reading before Superfriends came out... are you saying that prior to that he was a cool character? I remember watching that solo cartoon he was in, where he could throw balls of water, and he wasn't cool then either. The problem, of course, is that while most of the world is covered in water, most of the comic book plots are not. When Peter David took over, originally with the blue suit and Atlantis mythology, then the hook hand, he at least gave him a personality.

His popularity is higher now, but I think a lot of the initial success after the new 52 is because Johns and Reis were put on the book.

He can't control water per se, but Aqualad (new and old) can (see Young Justice). Heck, as the comic book panel someone posted above says, he doesn't even talk to sea animals so much as compel them to obey.

He's not exactly a lightweight, but compared to Superman, Batman, Gal Gadot, a guy who can make green constructs, a guy who's super fast and can run through time, and a guy who has all the powers of Superman plus can turn intangible/invisible but is afraid of fire, he loses out (He's arguably more useful than the second wave, though: a guy who can shrink, a guy who shoots arrows, and a guy who has wings).

The fact we are debating Aquaman because he is going to be in a movie, is pretty awesome for fans IMO.

Actually, it is a fail. Lex always fancies himself as the biggest thing in Metropolis and enjoys towering over anyone. Unless the film explains that his building was totaled by the Wayne satellite debris during the Zod-Superman fight, that building is stupid. I also don't care for the X logo.

I have never heard anyone call Cyclops lame before. Sure, he isn't a Wolverine level of popularity, but he is still one of the more popular X-Men. A lame X-Man would be someone like Jubilee or Dazzler.

Also, saying that neither Cyclops nor Aquaman can get the girl is wrong. Both are married. Jean Grey may be attracted to Wolverine, but she prefers Cyclops and married him. Aquaman is married to Mera.

I don't believe either of them are married at the moment. Cyclops is a widower, and in the New 52 Mera is somehow Aquaman's queen, but not his wife.
