+1 to the chap who said that Nolan's films are overrated.
Batman 89
Batman Returns
Batman Begins
The Dark Knight *
Batman Forever
The Dark Knight Rises
Batman and Robin
* I have to say, I find that whenever I get an urge to rewatch this film, I end up just fast-forwarding to the Joker parts...

Here its mine
1-Batman Begins - Hands down his best origin story in film
2-The Dark Knight Rises - A nice sequel for Begins
3-The Dark Knight - (Awesome movie but feels more like "Heat" than a Batman movie, but the Joker alone brings the movie to epic status)
4-Under the Red Hood - The story is pretty twisted and as equally dark as the Nolan films. Love the Joker and Robin here too
5-Mask of the Phantasm - Classic, I think is the only one that has a nice portrayal of Bruce romantic life or one that feels real at least
6-The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 - Superman/Batman showdown. Joker/Batman showdown this movie is epic
7-The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 - The comic is a classic so there is no way not to enjoy this
8- Return of the Joker - I always wanted to see a movie like this where Bruce is already old and has protegee
9-Batman Returns - As said by others a nice little movie if taken as a Burton film
10-Batman 66 -Its a fun movie if taken for what it is , intentional camp
11-Batman & Robin - Same reason I like Batman 66, taken as a comedy this is a blast and I re-watched it recently non stop laughs and with Schumacher commentary even better!
12-Batman 89 - I enjoyed very little of this one. Prince music is so dated. sounds like my Nintendo music bi bop bi bop. And Nicholson Joker well is kinda of joke, even all the cartoon iterations have been better and more twisted
13-Batman Forever - This one was annoying. Carrey/Jones were so over the top. Its a movie that tries to be serious and follow in the same canon as the Burton films but has so many elements that go in different directions. At least on Batman & Robin there was a conscious decision to make a movie to sell toys and go full camp

Yeah I always get a kick out of people who try and make it out like The Dark Knight Rises has such a drastic drop in quality compared to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. I understand if you like it less than the other two but it's not some terrible film like some people want to believe.

I don't really want to get into a whole thing again but really this is kind of a silly argument. The Dark Knight Rises isn't so drastically worse compared with Batman Begins or The Dark Knight that it's not considered a good movie. You may not have liked it as much but to act as though it's on such a different level is ridiculous.

Actor Matt Damon chimes in on his good friend Ben Affleck's decision to play Batman in the Man of Steel sequel, stating, "I think it will be great. It will be terrific. I know there are a lot of people grousing on the internet. I just think it's kind of funny." He continued, "You know, he's not playing King Lear. It's Batman! Certainly within his skill set. If anybody saw Argo or The Town, and all the work he's been doing lately, it's way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman! Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that."
This will not sit well with Batman fans.

Yeah the Nolan Batfilms are really consistent in terms of quality and each contain their own strengths and weaknesses.
Batman Begins is bogged down by the most cheesy one-liners such as "Nice coat" and "I gotta get me one of those!" It's a great origin story and has a pretty*effective twist, great chemistry with Bruce and Alfred but on the flipside, terrible chemistry between Bruce and Rachel and a forced romantic angle.
The Dark Knight is elevated by Ledger's performance as the joker, however it has pacing issues and the film peaks too early, with a fairly underwhelming final act.
The Dark Knight Rises has several storylines that are rushed and underdeveloped, but it has the most exciting third act of the series, and has steady momentum that builds up to the climax. This is the only film of the trilogy that I think would benefit with a director's cut with additional material added back in.

I think Matt Damon is downplaying Batman a bit, but he's defending his friend without being a jerk to the people criticizing the casting choice.
About The Dark Knight Trillogy. I think Batman Begins was pretty underwhelming at times. The actress who played Rachel was a bad choice, I though the actor who played the mob boss wasn't that intimidating, the flashback sequence of the murder of the Waynes wasn't too emotional, and more. I also didn't like the sepia toned cityscape, made it look fake for some reason.
The Dark Knight was great for all the reasons mentioned, and flawed for being a little too long and yeah, the final act seemed tacked on.
The Dark Knight Rises had even more flaws for all the reasons mentioned in the thread from back then. But it was still a very good film, and better than Begins.

my main problem with Affleck is he's a star. Henry Cavill is a relative unknown. So now, this is not going to be Superman vs Batman, it's going to be Superman vs Ben Affleck. I wish they hired a relative nobody like Cavill, to fill the role, and let the character be in the forefront, not the actor.

^That's the same problem I have. Not that I don't like Affleck but I can't shake off the idea that is Ben in a suit. First time I saw Bale was on Begins so that was the first relationship I made. Same thing with Keaton Batman was my introduction to the man... oh wait it might have been Beetlejuice but I had no idea it was him though...
PS: Keaton was awesome as Bruce, the pain and detachment in the man's eyes

Even more so, RDJ was an even bigger star before he played Iron Man, and he plays Iron Man so well I can't imagine anyone else replacing him (although I know it will eventually have to happen).

RDJ was famous yes... but he had been pretty much cast out of Hollywood and Iron Man was the final piece of the puzzle for his comeback. Iron Man wasn't a popular character until the movie, so there wasn't pre-conceived notions of what the character really should be.

I just can't shake that every performance that Affleck has ever given is very carbon copy. I can't recall one performance where I thought, "wow, that boy can act." You can't say the same of Ledger, even with a smaller body of work.
